Manon les Suites is the flagship Copenhagen property of the Guldsmeden Hotels group — a small Danish hotel collection (six hotels in Copenhagen and one in Bali) founded in 2002 by sisters Sandra and Marc Weinert and built around an explicit Bali-meets-Scandinavia design language. Manon opened in 2017 in a substantially reworked 1903 building on Gyldenløvesgade, immediately adjacent to the Søerne (the Lakes) and a fifteen-minute walk from the city centre. The brief from the start was clear: a Northern European city hotel that read as a tropical resort, with the building's central feature reorganised around an indoor pool ringed in tropical greenery, glass-roofed for daylight in summer and warmth in winter, and visible from the corridors and lounges throughout the property.
The 87 suites are the only inventory — there are no Standard rooms — and run from 28-square-metre Junior categories through 60-square-metre Pool Suites with private terraces overlooking the central pool atrium. Interiors are colonial-Asian-Scandinavian: four-poster beds in solid teak, hand-painted Balinese textiles, brass and copper accents, freestanding tubs in stone, and ample use of rattan, woven banana leaf, and tropical hardwoods. The Pool Suites — eight of them around the central atrium — are the heavily booked category and the only Copenhagen hotel rooms with private terraces facing an indoor jungle pool. The Junior Suites at the Søerne side of the building are the better light option; the Lake Suites at the corners are the largest at the entry-suite level.
The food and beverage programme runs through three venues. Chapung — the rooftop restaurant — is named after the Bali property and runs an Asian-fusion menu with sit-down dinners, cocktails, and the city's most consistently busy hotel rooftop in the warm months (the views go across the Lakes to Frederiksberg in one direction and Nørrebro in the other). The lobby café-bar runs all-day breakfast (an entirely organic buffet, a Guldsmeden hallmark across the group), light lunches, and the evening drinks list. The pool deck operates as a daytime cocktail bar in summer.
The wellness facilities are unusually serious for a 4-star-positioned property. The pool itself (28°C year-round), a steam room, sauna, and full massage and treatment programme using the in-house Guldsmeden organic skincare line. The hotel maintains a strict adults-only policy: minimum age 15 for all stays, no exceptions, no children's facilities. This is the choice the property's identity rests on, and the calmer-than-most public spaces are a direct consequence. The position on Gyldenløvesgade is residential — the property is not central in the same way the Inner City five-stars are — but the M1/M2 metro stop at Forum is four minutes' walk and the Inner City sights are fifteen minutes by metro or twenty-five on foot. Manon les Suites is the most distinctive non-traditional luxury option in Copenhagen and the most consistent answer for groups in the bachelor/ette and wellness categories.
For Copenhagen bachelor and bachelorette weekends, Manon is the obvious answer. The Pool Suites for the bridal party, the rooftop Chapung for a Friday evening dinner, the indoor pool deck during the day, the strict adults-only policy that prevents any 4pm family swim disruption, and the Lakes-side position five minutes from the Nørrebro restaurant scene. The hotel handles group bookings of six to twelve well; the concierge has an excellent contact list for the Mikkeller Bar bookings, the Vinyl bar nights, and the Distortion festival weeks.
For wellness retreats, Manon is the most distinctive choice — the indoor jungle pool, the steam and sauna, the in-house Balinese-trained massage therapists, the entirely organic breakfast, and the Lakes (one of the city's best running and walking loops, 6.5 kilometres around all three) at the doorstep. The combination is genuinely close to the Bali wellness reference the brand uses. The 1 Hotel Copenhagen is more clinically considered; Manon is the warmer and more sensory choice.
For solo travellers in their twenties to forties, Manon is consistently the right answer — the adults-only policy means quieter public spaces, the pool deck and Chapung are genuinely comfortable for a single guest, the rooms are designed for a single occupant in a way many couples-positioned hotels are not, and the location is closer to the city's third-wave coffee and natural-wine scene than any of the Inner City flagships.
