Open since 1880 on the Beaulieu-sur-Mer seafront. Thirty-nine rooms in the Belle Époque main building, two-Michelin-starred dining, and the most refined small Riviera grand hotel.
"Open since 1880 on the Beaulieu seafront. 39 rooms, two Michelin stars, the most refined small Riviera grand hotel."
La Réserve de Beaulieu opened in 1880 on the seafront of Beaulieu-sur-Mer — between Nice and Monaco on the Côte d'Azur — and is the property where the modern Riviera hotel programme of luxury, fine dining, and seafront leisure was effectively codified. James Gordon Bennett Jr., the New York Herald's eccentric proprietor, was an early backer; the property was the first hotel on the Riviera to install electric lighting, the first to host modern fine-dining service. Operated by the Pélissier family for several generations, the property is now part of the Maison Réserve collection and retains the family-ownership-and-operation feel.
The 39 rooms and suites split between the main Belle Époque building (with original parquet, period furniture, and seafront balconies), the smaller Pool Pavilion accommodations, and the larger suites at the property's seafront end. The Royal Suite — the property's flagship, with private terrace overlooking the Mediterranean — is among the most coveted single accommodations on the Côte d'Azur. The seafront-balcony suites in the main building are the most-requested mid-tier.
The grounds — 2.5 acres directly on the Beaulieu seafront — include the heated outdoor seawater pool, the cabanas, the small private beach, and the gardens. The spa — at over 1,000 square metres, with a heated indoor pool — is one of the larger luxury hotel spas in the Beaulieu area and offers the brand's signature multi-day wellness programmes. The fitness centre is comprehensive.
Dining is at three restaurants. Le Restaurant des Rois — the property's two-Michelin-starred main restaurant, in the Belle Époque building's restored seafront dining hall — under chef Yannick Franques, with a daily-changing seasonal menu drawing on Provençal producers and the property's own kitchen garden. La Table de la Réserve is the more relaxed all-day. The wine programme is heavily Provençal and Burgundy-focused. Service at La Réserve is the consistent small-hotel-grand-house standard delivered by a heavily local team — closer to a private mansion than a hotel — and the resort's combination of the 145-year heritage, the two Michelin stars, and the seafront location makes it the most refined small Riviera grand hotel.
The Riviera anniversary for couples whose taste runs to the smaller, more refined Belle Époque grand hotel. La Réserve handles vow renewals at the seafront pavilion, private dinners at Le Restaurant des Rois with the two-Michelin-starred chef, and milestone arrangements with the discretion of a small property where the staff know every guest.
The Riviera honeymoon for couples who want the small-property, family-owned, two-Michelin-star Belle Époque experience. Book a seafront suite. The dinner at Le Restaurant des Rois is the property's centrepiece; the seawater pool and beach by day; the Beaulieu village walks. The honeymoon at La Réserve is the gourmet-Riviera honeymoon.
La Réserve's spa runs the brand's multi-day wellness programmes — three- to seven-day protocols combining hydrotherapy, treatments, and dietary consultations. The seafront setting, the heated outdoor pool, and the small-scale of the property make this one of the more refined wellness-focused Riviera options.
