The Hotel

Le Mas Candille sits on a hill above the medieval village of Mougins — eight kilometres inland from the Cannes seafront, in the Riviera hinterland that Pablo Picasso settled in 1961 and lived until his death in 1973. The property is built around a restored 18th-century Provençal mas (the original farmhouse) plus an adjoining bastide and several outbuildings, set in a four-hectare landscape of olive groves, lavender hedges, and Mediterranean cypress that the property's gardener-team has maintained continuously since the early 19th century. The hotel was opened in its current 5-star configuration in the late 1990s, comprehensively renovated in 2007, and admitted to Relais & Châteaux in 2008 — a membership it has held continuously.

The 46 rooms run across the restored mas, the bastide, and the two adjoining stone outbuildings. Categories run from Classic Doubles in the bastide (28 sqm, garden-facing, restored Provençal-tile floors) through Junior Suites (40 sqm in the mas) to the named Suite Picasso (75 sqm, the original mas master-bedroom restored, with private terrace facing the Esterel mountains and the Mediterranean line on a clear day). The interior register is contemporary-Provençal restraint applied to the historic stone fabric — exposed limestone walls, hand-loomed Provençal-cotton textiles, dark-stained timber beams preserved throughout, and a deliberately understated decorative palette. Most rooms have private balconies or terraces facing either the Esterel hills or the property's olive grove.

Le Candille — the in-house fine-dining restaurant under chef Sébastien Sanjou (one Michelin star since 2017, currently maintained) — runs the modern-Provençal register on the bastide's southern terrace, with the Esterel-and-Mediterranean sightline as the open-air dining backdrop. The Pergola is the all-day pool restaurant; the in-house wine cellar runs about 700 bins focused on the Provence-and-Riviera vineyards (Domaine Tempier, Ott, Domaine de Trévallon) plus a strong Burgundy and Rhône secondary inventory. The wine cellar is the single most-used reason returning guests cite for extending Mas Candille stays from three to five nights.

The Shiseido Qi Spa — the only Shiseido-brand spa in continental Europe outside Paris — is the structural distinction at Mas Candille. The 1,000-sqm complex runs eight treatment rooms, an indoor heated pool, an outdoor infinity pool fronting the olive grove, and the structured Shiseido Qi facials and body treatments that give the property the most-considered wellness offering in the Mougins-Cannes hinterland. Daily yoga on the bastide pavilion runs March-October; the structured five-night Shiseido Qi wellness retreat programme runs through the May, October, and November shoulder windows.
