The Hotel

Casa 1800 Granada opened on 1 April 2009 as the first of what is now a four-property Casa 1800 collection (Granada, Seville, Barcelona, Mérida) — the small Andalusian-Spanish boutique-hotel group founded by the Bonet family of Granada. The property occupies a restored 19th-century Albaicín mansion at Calle Benalúa 11, on the southern slope of the Albaicín neighbourhood (the historic Moorish quarter of Granada that faces the Alhambra across the Darro Valley) — restored room-by-room across 2007-2009 with the original 19th-century Granadan domestic architectural register preserved. The hotel was Granada's first boutique-design hotel and has held the city's highest TripAdvisor rating continuously since 2014.

The 25 rooms — including 4 named suites — are arranged across the building's four floors, with the principal architectural decision being the Alhambra orientation: 16 of the 25 rooms have direct or partial Alhambra-line-of-sight from the bedroom or bathroom window. The Alhambra View categories at 26 sqm are the booking premium. The Penthouse Suite at 50 sqm on the top floor is the milestone unit, with a private terrace and direct Alhambra view. Bathrooms are travertine and Andalusian-tile; bath products are local Granada-made.

There is no on-site restaurant — the Casa 1800 model is to direct guests to the most-recommended kitchens within ten minutes' walk (Cunini, Restaurante Damasqueros, Faralá, Restaurante Antonio Martín among them). Breakfast is served in the central courtyard or, weather permitting, on the rooftop terrace. The free afternoon-tea programme — the property's signature included amenity — runs daily from 4 to 6 PM on the rooftop with Andalusian pastries, churros, jamón ibérico and the property's Alhambra-view as the operational backdrop. Evening cocktail-and-tapas hour runs 8 to 10 PM. There is no pool or spa — the Albaicín-mansion footprint precludes both.

The Albaicín position is the booking proposition. From the front door it is six minutes on foot uphill to the Albaicín principal viewpoint at Mirador San Nicolás, eight minutes downhill to the Plaza Nueva and the Granada Cathedral, twelve minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot uphill to the Alhambra (the Albaicín position requires a 250-metre elevation change to reach the Alhambra), and 25 minutes by car to Granada-Jaén Airport. For travellers wanting the most discreet, most photographically-Granadan boutique with the Alhambra-view-from-the-bedroom proposition at the four-star tier, Casa 1800 is the right answer.
