Spain's Moorish jewel. The Alhambra, the Albaicín hillside, the Sierra Nevada beyond, and the most characterful heritage hotels in Andalusia.
Granada's best hotels come down to one decision: how close to the Alhambra you want to wake up. The Parador de Granada sits inside the Alhambra grounds; Hotel Alhambra Palace and Eurostars Washington Irving sit on the hill beside it; Casa 1800, Casa Morisca and Shine Albayzín put you in the Albaicín; and Hospes Palacio de los Patos and Palacio de Santa Paula anchor the walkable Centro.

Granada's stays split cleanly by location, and the choice shapes your whole trip.
Alhambra grounds & hill — the closest you can sleep to the monument. The Parador is literally inside the walls; Hotel Alhambra Palace and Eurostars Washington Irving sit on the wooded hill beside it. Quiet at night, a steep walk or short taxi from town.
Albaicín — the old Moorish quarter of cobbled lanes and white houses, with the best Alhambra views from across the Darro. Casa 1800, Casa Morisca and Shine Albayzín are here. Atmospheric but hilly, with stairs and limited car access.
Centro — flat, walkable streets around Gran Vía and the cathedral, closest to shops and restaurants. Hospes Palacio de los Patos and Palacio de Santa Paula anchor it, with the neighbouring Realejo (the old Jewish quarter) just south.
Granada's heritage hotels lean romantic and adult. For families, the practical picks are Hotel Alhambra Palace (110 rooms and the most space) and Eurostars Washington Irving (a rooftop pool); the Parador suits a special-occasion family trip. The tiny Albaicín carmens and boutiques have stairs, no kids' facilities and few connecting rooms, so they're better for couples than for young children.
April, June and September-October are the best months. July and August are hot, often above 35C. Winter is cool and quiet, with the Sierra Nevada ski season nearby.
Granada (GRX) airport is about 45 minutes from the centre; many visitors fly into Málaga (AGP), 90 minutes by road. The AVE train reaches Madrid in around three hours. The Alhambra hill is steep, so take a taxi to your hotel on arrival.
Book the Parador 6+ months ahead, it has only 40 rooms and sells out first. Six to eight weeks is usually enough for the others, but bring that forward for spring and autumn. Book your timed Alhambra tickets at the same time as your hotel; they sell out independently.
The Parador de Granada is the only hotel inside the Alhambra grounds, set in the 15th-century Convent of San Francisco (40 rooms, recently renovated). Hotel Alhambra Palace and Eurostars Washington Irving sit on the hill immediately beside the monument, a short walk from the entrance.
For atmosphere and Alhambra views, stay in the Albaicín (Casa 1800, Casa Morisca, Shine Albayzín). For walkable convenience near shops and the cathedral, choose the Centro (Hospes Palacio de los Patos, Palacio de Santa Paula). To be at the monument itself, stay on the Alhambra hill (the Parador, Hotel Alhambra Palace, Eurostars Washington Irving).
Granada's top hotels skew romantic and adult. The most family-practical are Hotel Alhambra Palace (110 rooms, plenty of space and terraces) and the Parador for a special trip; Eurostars Washington Irving has a rooftop pool. The small Albaicín carmens and boutiques (Casa Morisca, Carmen de la Victoria, Shine Albayzín) have stairs, no kids' facilities and limited connecting rooms, so they suit couples more than young children.
Book the Parador de Granada at least six months out: with only 40 rooms inside the Alhambra it is the hardest room in the city to get. Most other hotels can be booked six to eight weeks ahead, but bring that forward for spring (April) and autumn (September-October), the busiest stretches.
April, June and September-October offer the best mix of mild weather and manageable crowds. July and August are hot, often above 35C, though hotel rates can dip. Winter is cool and quiet, with the Sierra Nevada ski season adding a different reason to visit.
Granada's own airport (GRX) is about 45 minutes from the centre; many travellers instead fly into Málaga (AGP) and drive around 90 minutes. The AVE high-speed train links Granada to Madrid in about three hours. The Alhambra hill is steep, so a taxi to your hotel on arrival is worth it.
