The Hotel

Six Senses Kocataş Mansions opened in 2020 on the upper European shore of the Bosphorus at Sarıyer, the historic fishing village now absorbed into the city as Istanbul's northernmost luxury district before the Black Sea. The hotel occupies two restored 19th-century yalı (Ottoman waterfront mansions): the Hatice Sultan Yalısı, built in the 1880s for the daughter of Sultan Abdülmecid I, and the Sait Halim Paşa Yalısı, built in the 1860s for the Egyptian-Ottoman grand vizier of the same name. The two mansions sit a few hundred metres apart on the Bosphorus shore, joined behind the historic façades by a contemporary central wing built between them; the result is a hotel of approximately 60 rooms across an integrated 2.5-acre waterfront site.

The 60 rooms are distributed across the historic-yalı and contemporary-wing categories. The Hatice Sultan Yalısı holds 22 rooms in the restored historic structure, these are the most architecturally distinctive units, with the original timber-beam ceilings, the carved kafes window screens, and direct Bosphorus exposure. The Sait Halim Paşa Yalısı holds 17 rooms with similar character. The contemporary central wing holds 21 rooms and the property's principal public spaces. The Sultan's Suite, the property's flagship, occupies the upper floor of the Hatice Sultan Yalısı and includes a private terrace running the full waterfront length of the building. Standard rooms run to 35 square metres; the largest suites to 250 square metres.

The dining is the property's quiet strength and explicitly multi-restaurant, six restaurants and bars across the two-yalı footprint, the largest in any Istanbul Six Senses-scale operation. Toro Latin Gastrobar (the chain's Latin-American kitchen by chef Richard Sandoval); Sea Salt by the Bosphorus (Mediterranean fish at the waterfront); Priolo (the contemporary Italian); Sini Köşk (the historic Ottoman-Turkish dining room in one of the yalı pavilions); Foxglove (the cocktail bar in the historic Sait Halim Paşa); and the casual Veranda all-day venue. The kitchen is unusually serious for a wellness-led property, Six Senses delivered a deliberate Turkish-Mediterranean culinary programme in addition to the brand's usual wellness food vocabulary.

The Six Senses Spa is the property's central proposition, at 1,800 square metres, the brand's largest European spa and the most ambitious wellness facility on the Bosphorus alongside the Mandarin Oriental's. The treatment menu draws on the brand's Asian wellness vocabulary (Six Senses Skincare, Six Senses Integrated Wellness) layered with traditional Turkish hammam protocols. The spa includes a 15-metre indoor pool, a 25-metre outdoor pool over the Bosphorus, a traditional Turkish hammam, a sauna and steam, and the Six Senses signature treatment programme. Multi-night Wellness Programmes (Sleep, Detox, Discovery, Yogic Detox) are the format the brand built its reputation on. The position at Sarıyer is the trade-off, the property is 25 minutes by car from Beşiktaş in light traffic, 40 in heavier traffic, but for guests prioritising wellness over central-city access, the upper-Bosphorus quietness is decisive.

Wellness

For Istanbul wellness retreats Six Senses Kocataş is the brand's flagship answer in the eastern Mediterranean. The 1,800-square-metre spa, the multi-night Wellness Programmes (Sleep, Detox, Discovery), the Six Senses Integrated Wellness protocols, and the upper-Bosphorus quietness combine to produce a setting that the central-city competitors cannot match. Multi-night packages with the wellness assessments and included treatments are the format most guests use.

Honeymoon

For Istanbul honeymoons that prioritise privacy, wellness, and a yalı setting over the central-city headline, Six Senses Kocataş is the answer. The Sultan's Suite at the Hatice Sultan Yalısı, the after-hours hammam ritual at the spa, and the private dinner at Sini Köşk in the historic Ottoman dining room give the city honeymoon a calm and a depth that the more central addresses cannot offer. The one-hour boat transfer from the central piers is itself part of the experience.

Solo Retreat

For Istanbul solo retreats, a wellness reset, a writer's week, a quiet research trip, Six Senses Kocataş is the most considered choice. The property is built for guests who want privacy and time; the upper-Bosphorus position handles the rest; the multi-night Discovery and Sleep Wellness Programmes give solo travellers a structured itinerary that the more conventional five-stars cannot offer. The breakfast room overlooking the Bosphorus is the most reliably contemplative place to begin an Istanbul day.

Frequently asked questions

Last updated June 11, 2026

Where is Six Senses Kocatas Mansions?
On the upper European shore of the Bosphorus at Sariyer, Istanbul's northernmost luxury district before the Black Sea, where the strait visibly bends toward the open water. It is Six Senses' first Turkish property, opened in 2020.
What buildings does it occupy?
Two restored 19th-century yali, Ottoman waterfront mansions: the Hatice Sultan Yalisi, built in the 1880s for the daughter of Sultan Abdulmecid I, and the Sait Halim Pasa Yalisi from the 1860s, joined behind the historic facades by a contemporary central wing on the 2.5-acre waterfront site.
How are the rooms arranged?
Across the historic-yali and contemporary-wing categories. The Hatice Sultan Yalisi holds 22 rooms in the restored historic structure, the most architecturally distinctive units, with original timber-beam ceilings and carved kafes window screens; the contemporary wing holds the rest.
What is the wellness programme?
Six Senses' most ambitious wellness programme outside Asia, the property's central proposition, set on the Bosphorus shore away from the city centre. The address is for guests who want to leave the city without leaving Istanbul.
Which room should you book?
One of the 22 historic rooms in the Hatice Sultan Yalisi for the original timber ceilings and kafes screens and the closest waterfront position. Rooms score 9.4 and Service 9.5.
What are the drawbacks?
Sariyer sits well up the Bosphorus, a drive or boat from the historic peninsula and Beyoglu, so it trades sightseeing convenience for a quiet waterfront retreat. Location scores 8.9, the lowest of its three marks.
How much does it cost?
Rates start around 420 euros a night. The two restored Ottoman yali, the ambitious Six Senses spa, and the upper-Bosphorus waterfront position are the core of the offer.
Who is Six Senses Kocatas best for?
Wellness, honeymoon, and solo travellers who want a Bosphorus waterfront retreat in restored Ottoman mansions over a central city hotel. The yali architecture and the spa programme are the headline.
