The Hotel

Strawberry Hill sits at 3,100 feet elevation on a 26-acre Blue Mountain estate in Irish Town — the small village in Jamaica's Blue Mountains, 50 minutes' drive northeast of Kingston. The property is Chris Blackwell's signature Jamaican retreat — Blackwell (the British-Jamaican music producer who founded Island Records, signed Bob Marley, and built the Island Outpost hospitality portfolio of small Jamaican luxury properties across the 1990s) acquired the original Strawberry Hill plantation residence in the 1970s as his personal Blue Mountain weekend retreat; converted the estate to a 12-cottage Island Outpost luxury hotel after Hurricane Gilbert in 1988; and reopened the property in 1994 as the brand-flagship of the Island Outpost portfolio.
