Mansion House Inn occupies a restored 1794 Greek-revival landmark at 9 Main Street in Vineyard Haven — the working-port village at the northern tip of MV that holds the Steamship Authority ferry dock (the year-round MV-mainland ferry connection) and the island's primary commercial-and-residential cluster. The Mansion House was built in 1794 as a private residence; was converted to an inn in the 1840s; and has held the Mansion House name continuously for 180 years — making the property the longest-running unbroken luxury operation on Martha's Vineyard. Current owners the Hall family acquired the property in 1985 (the same family that built and operates Winnetu Oceanside in Katama) and committed to a major comprehensive restoration in 2003 that reopened the property as a 32-key boutique luxury inn.

The 32 keys are spread across the restored 1794 main building's three floors plus a small contemporary annex added during the 2003 restoration. Categories run from entry-tier Garden View Rooms (24 sqm in the cottage annex) through Harbour View Rooms (28 sqm in the 1794 main building with restored Greek-revival period detail and direct Vineyard Haven Harbor sightline) to the named Mansion Suite (50 sqm — top-floor of the 1794 main building with a private balcony and the property's only fireplace). The interior register is contemporary-Greek-revival restraint applied to the heritage envelope — restored period furniture, hand-loomed New England wool textiles in restrained colonial palettes, and the deliberate decision to keep the 1794 architectural fabric without converting to a contemporary-design boutique.

What structurally distinguishes Mansion House Inn is the only-luxury-in-Vineyard-Haven-village-core position combined with the on-property pool. Mansion House is the only luxury hotel inside Vineyard Haven's commercial walking district (the property is 30 seconds' walk from the Steamship Authority ferry dock — the year-round mainland-MV ferry connection — and 5 minutes' walk from Mocha Mott's, the Black Dog Tavern, and the cluster of Main Street boutiques and restaurants). The property's heated indoor pool and 6,000-sqft fitness centre are the only luxury-hotel pool inside walking distance of the ferry dock. The Mansion Suite's restored period detail and the 1794 main building's heritage architectural fabric give the property the Greek-revival heritage register that the larger Edgartown alternatives don't replicate.

Operationally Mansion House runs the village-core boutique register. The Mansion Bar — the property's lobby cocktail bar — runs an 80-bottle Vineyard-vintage and East-Coast-craft-spirits programme; the property does not run a fine-dining restaurant but the breakfast operation in the central courtyard is the property's signature daily-routine asset. Dinner across MV is structurally arranged at the Black Dog Tavern (across the street from the property), at State Road in West Tisbury (12 minutes' drive), or at the Beach Plum Inn in Menemsha (35 minutes' drive). Free island-wide bicycle programme is included.
