The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad

The Ritz-Carlton's second Manhattan address occupies the late Rafael Viñoly's 500-foot NoMad tower, which opened to guests in July 2022. Floor-to-ceiling glass, a three-restaurant José Andrés dining floor and the brand's full service standard are the case; no pool and a high entry rate are the trade-off.

The Hotel

Begin with the tower, because the architecture is the argument here. The Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad occupies a 500-foot glass shaft at 25 West 28th Street designed by the late Rafael Viñoly — among the last New York commissions of the architect best known in the city for 432 Park Avenue. The hotel opened to guests in July 2022 as the brand's second Manhattan address and its most contemporary, taking the lower floors of the building while sixteen privately owned penthouse residences crown the top four. With 250 keys (219 rooms and 31 suites), it is the first property to bring the Ritz-Carlton's full five-star infrastructure to a district previously served only by boutique hotels.

Viñoly's vocabulary is restraint at scale: a slender, mostly unornamented curtain wall that reads as a single vertical gesture against NoMad's masonry low-rise, with the floor-to-ceiling glazing that gives the upper rooms their reach across Madison Square Park and the two rivers. Inside, the contemporary Ritz-Carlton palette — clean lines, stone and bronze tones, deep service technology — favours polish over the patina of the brand's older houses. The penthouse residences, set on the highest floors with extended terraces, hold the views that the tower's height and the neighbourhood's modest skyline combine to deliver.

José Andrés' presence, with both Zaytinya, his Mediterranean concept, and Bazaar Meat, the theatrical steakhouse format, provides the dining programme that the Ritz-Carlton brand requires in a market where the kitchen is as important as the room. Andrés' two-restaurant model creates the dining variety within the hotel that the NoMad's neighbourhood restaurant density makes competitive to match. Nubeluz, the rooftop bar, handles the evening programme with the elevated view.

The 28th Street location is four minutes on foot from Madison Square Park, accessible to the Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, and the Midtown commercial corridor to the north. The NoMad's restaurant and hospitality concentration makes the hotel's immediate neighbourhood among the most density-rich in Manhattan for the food, nightlife, and creative-industry clients that the Ritz-Carlton's NoMad guest profile attracts.

Best for Business

The Ritz-Carlton NoMad's business case is the combination of the brand's operational standard and the NoMad neighbourhood's creative-industry concentration. Bazaar Meat provides the power-dinner setting; Zaytinya handles the all-day mezze lunch; the Ritz-Carlton's meeting infrastructure handles the formal sessions. For executives in the tech, media, and design sectors whose clients are located in the NoMad-Flatiron corridor, the hotel's address reduces the commute overhead that Midtown-based Ritz-Carlton properties impose.

Best for Proposal

The Penthouse Suite's outdoor terrace, Zaytinya's seasonal Mediterranean menu, and the Ritz-Carlton's proposal logistics programme, ring delivery, room preparation, photographer coordination, post-proposal celebration arrangements, constitute the proposal infrastructure that a five-star property is built to provide. The Madison Square Park proximity offers the pre-dinner walk and the post-dinner evening that the occasion benefits from with the park's green space as the outdoor element that Manhattan luxury hotels near the park's southern edge cannot match.

Where it falls short

Two honest caveats. First, the building is the draw more than the interiors: Viñoly's tower is a serious piece of architecture, but the guest rooms execute a contemporary brand template rather than a designer's singular hand, and they read efficient and polished rather than characterful. Second, this is a five-star hotel without a swimming pool, and its rates open high for a property that opened in 2022 and is still settling its service into Ritz-Carlton consistency. The dining floor and the views earn the price; expect a corporate-luxury register rather than the patina of the city's older grandes dames.

Frequently asked

Who designed the Ritz-Carlton New York, NoMad?

The 500-foot tower at 25 West 28th Street is the work of the late Rafael Viñoly and his firm Rafael Viñoly Architects, among his final New York commissions. The hotel occupies the lower floors and opened to guests in July 2022; the rooftop bar Nubeluz was conceived by designer Martin Brudzinski.

When did the Ritz-Carlton NoMad open?

The hotel opened to guests in July 2022 as the Ritz-Carlton brand's second Manhattan address. The José Andrés steakhouse Bazaar Meat followed in 2023, and the 16 penthouse residences on the tower's top floors were unveiled the same year.

How many rooms does the Ritz-Carlton NoMad have?

250 keys — 219 rooms and 31 suites — across the hotel floors, plus 16 privately owned penthouse residences occupying the top four floors of the Viñoly tower.

What restaurants are in the Ritz-Carlton NoMad?

Three José Andrés venues: Zaytinya, the all-day Eastern Mediterranean mezze room; Bazaar Meat, the fire-driven steakhouse on Level 2; and Nubeluz, the rooftop bar with 270-degree skyline views. A lobby lounge and the Bazaar Bar round out the programme.

Does the Ritz-Carlton NoMad have a pool?

No. There is no swimming pool. The wellness offer is a fitness centre with Ritz-Carlton spa services; guests who require a hotel pool should look to other five-star Manhattan properties.
