Hôtel Grand Powers

A 50-room 5-star at 52 rue François 1er — in the heart of the Golden Triangle since 1920, an SLH boutique with Diptyque amenity programme, top-floor spa with hammam and sauna, and Eiffel Tower Suite framed through a single window.

#26 in Paris
Honeymoon Anniversary Business Five-Star

"The Golden Triangle 5-star nobody photographs — and that is the case for booking. Half the room rate of George V or Plaza Athénée, the same postcode, an Eiffel-Tower-Suite window that frames the tower like a mounted print."

The Hotel

Le Grand Powers has occupied 52 rue François 1er — the central corner of Paris's Golden Triangle, the diamond bordered by Avenue George V, Avenue Montaigne, and Avenue des Champs-Élysées — since 1920. The Haussmannian building was originally a 19th-century private hôtel particulier; conversion to hotel use occurred in the immediate post-WWI period, and the property has operated continuously as a hotel for the 105 years since. Family ownership transferred several times in the late 20th century; the current owner-operators completed a comprehensive 2016 renovation that upgraded the property from 4-star to 5-star classification and joined the Small Luxury Hotels of the World collection that same year.

Fifty rooms across six floors run from Superior Doubles at 22 square metres up through Junior Suites with balcony, Deluxe Doubles, Executive rooms, Family Suites with separate sitting room, and the headline Eiffel Tower Suite at 50 square metres on the top floor — the only category with a window that frames the tower from chimney to base, the room you book six months ahead. Several Junior Suites have small private balconies on the rue François 1er side; some Deluxe rooms include working chimneys (the building was reglued for actual fires in 2019, restoring four functional fireplaces). Bathrooms throughout are in honed Carrara marble; amenities are by Diptyque (the Paris-based fragrance house, three minutes up the street at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain — the toiletries are the Powers's most-collected guest gift).

Café 52 is the property's restaurant-and-bar — a single double-height room on the ground floor with seasonal French bistronomy, open all day from breakfast to bar. The hotel's basement holds the Spa Powers: a four-treatment-room facility with hammam, sauna, and 24-hour fitness room. There is no swimming pool — a fair calibration concession at the small-hotel size. Brunch on Sundays is the regular booked-three-weeks-ahead event; the cocktail bar in Café 52 is the working calibrate-and-meet venue.

The position is the strongest single argument. Avenue Montaigne (Plaza Athénée, Dior flagship, Chanel flagship) is one minute on foot; Avenue George V (Four Seasons George V, Givenchy flagship, Restaurant Le V) is two minutes; Avenue des Champs-Élysées is three minutes. Métro Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1, 9) is sixty seconds; the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais are eight minutes; the Pont Alexandre III is nine minutes. Travellers who want a Golden Triangle 5-star at half the Plaza Athénée tariff and at the small-hotel scale will find Powers the right answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

The Eiffel Tower Suite is the central honeymoon booking — the only room in the building with the framed-tower window and the only category large enough for a serious multi-night Paris stay. Avenue Montaigne is the dinner-walk; Plaza Athénée's Sunday brunch is two minutes; the Pont Alexandre III at sunset is nine minutes; the spa hammam is the morning programme. The hotel will arrange a Diptyque candle gift in the room without being asked.

Anniversary

A milestone anniversary that wants Avenue Montaigne calibration without the Plaza Athénée tariff. The Junior Suite with balcony for the quiet weekend; the Eiffel Tower Suite for the milestone year. Café 52 handles the in-house dinner; the hotel's three-minute-walk reach handles every Plaza Athénée / George V / Bristol restaurant booking. The post-2016 renovation reads as contemporary-classic rather than period-stuck.

Business

For business stays where the meetings are around Avenue Montaigne, Avenue George V, or the Champs-Élysées corporate corridor and the room rate is calibrated to 5-star but not palace, Powers is the answer. Wi-Fi is gigabit; the Boardroom seats eight; the café handles the working aperitif; the metro at Roosevelt connects directly to La Défense via line 1 in eleven minutes.
