"The bagpiper at sunset since 1987 is the most consistent piece of theatre in American hospitality. Roy's is the resort's sleeper-hit kitchen and Spanish Bay's fire pits are the closing image."

The Hotel

The Inn at Spanish Bay opened in 1987 on the dunes at the western edge of the Pebble Beach property — three miles north along 17-Mile Drive from the Lodge, on the wider, more naturally dramatic stretch of coast where the Spanish Bay dunes and the 1987 Tom Watson / Sandy Tatum / Robert Trent Jones Jr. links course occupy the open ocean shoulder of the Monterey Peninsula. The Inn was developed by Pebble Beach Company alongside the Spanish Bay course as a sister property to the Lodge — same ownership, same Pebble Beach Resorts service standard, but a deliberate change of position and atmosphere from the Lodge's intimate Stillwater Cove footprint to a wider, dunes-and-ocean Scottish-links setting.

The 269 rooms span Resort Rooms (the entry inventory), Junior Suites with separate sitting areas, the named One- and Two-Bedroom Suites, and Suites with direct ocean aspect. Most rooms have gas fireplaces; the better Ocean View categories — particularly any room facing west across the Spanish Bay dunes to the Pacific — are the rooms the Inn is known for. The named Spanish Bay Suite, the Pacific Suite, and the multi-bedroom suites handle milestone-anniversary and family-week inventory. Across renovations the Inn has updated room finishes while preserving the original architecture's deliberately lower-density, dune-respecting footprint.

Dining is the property's distinctive commercial pillar. Roy's at Pebble Beach is the only Roy Yamaguchi restaurant on the Monterey Peninsula and one of the original Roy's locations outside Hawai'i — a Hawaiian-fusion menu with Pacific-Rim seafood programme and a wine list that has held its position for over twenty-five years. Sticks (the all-day American restaurant on the first tee at the Links at Spanish Bay) handles breakfast, lunch, and après-golf; the Lobby Lounge (with the Bagpiper at Spanish Bay programme each evening) handles the all-day pour and signature sunset cocktail hour. The bagpiper has played along the Pebble Beach coastline every day rain or shine since the Inn opened in 1987 — beginning at the first tee at Spanish Bay in front of Sticks at sunset and finishing 45 minutes later at the Spanish Bay fire pits by the second green. It is the most consistent piece of theatre in American hospitality.

The position is the second commercial pillar. 2700 17-Mile Drive sits at the western edge of the Pebble Beach property; The Lodge is three minutes by complimentary house car (or a fifteen-minute walk along the coastal path); the four Pebble Beach Resorts golf courses are all accessible from the Inn's golf concierge with same-day shuttle service. Carmel-by-the-Sea is eight minutes by car; Monterey is fifteen; the Monterey Regional Airport is twenty-two. For honeymoons that prefer dunes and ocean to the Lodge's intimate Stillwater Cove, family weeks that want the broader resort programme and the bagpiper sunset, and golf trips that want Spanish Bay's links course at the door, the Inn is the answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For Pebble Beach honeymoons at the dunes-and-ocean five-star tier, the Inn at Spanish Bay's Ocean View Rooms and Suites are the room category. Roy's for the Hawaiian-fusion dinner; the bagpiper sunset at the Spanish Bay fire pits at 7 PM (or whenever sunset falls); the gas fireplace in the room afterwards. Helicopter excursions, Big Sur scenic flights, and the Pebble Beach Equestrian Center programme arrange via concierge.

Family Holiday

The Inn handles ski-week-equivalent California-coast families well. Two-Bedroom Suites with separate kids' rooms cover the multi-generational brief; Sticks handles family lunches; the bagpiper sunset is itself a family ritual; the Spanish Bay coastal path runs along the Inn's western edge for sunrise walks; Carmel-by-the-Sea's Carmel River State Beach is eight minutes by car for beach days.

Business & Golf

For Pebble Beach Resorts golf programmes, corporate offsites at the Inn's larger meeting-space footprint (the Inn handles the resort's principal conference programmes), and any business stay where the Spanish Bay course access matters most, the Inn is the answer. Sticks for working breakfasts; Roy's for the working dinner; the Inn's golf concierge for round bookings across the four courses.
