What makes Four Seasons Bangkok special?

This is the strongest combination of design, water and bar culture on the river. Jean-Michel Gathy, the architect of Amanpuri, laid the property out around a sequence of courtyards and terraces stepping down to the Chao Phraya, and the result reads as a resort set into the middle of a capital city rather than a city hotel with a view. It opened in 2020, ranked number two in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025, the highest placing of any hotel in Bangkok, and holds two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 edition. BKK Social Club, the Latin-American-inspired cocktail bar, has been named Thailand's best bar on Asia's 50 Best Bars for three consecutive years, which makes it a destination in its own right and one of the few hotel bars in the city that residents book well ahead. Note the name carefully: this is not the former Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok on Ratchadamri, which was re-flagged as Anantara Siam in 2015. They are separate buildings with separate histories, and conflating them is the most common error made about this hotel.

Which room should you book?

There are 299 rooms and suites, and the category you choose changes the stay significantly. Deluxe rooms look onto the central courtyard through 3.8-metre floor-to-ceiling windows, which is a handsome outlook but not the river, so guests booking the entry category at a riverside hotel should know what they are getting. Premier River-View rooms face the water and are what most people picture when they book this address. Specialty accommodation includes the Riverside Terrace Suite with its own private rooftop terrace. The glass is the consistent signature across categories, running floor to ceiling, with the Gathy interiors keeping the palette restrained. This is the largest riverside property in this comparison, so corridors are long and the feel is resort rather than boutique house. If the river is the reason for the trip, book a river-view category explicitly and have it confirmed in writing rather than assuming the address delivers the view.

Where should you eat and drink?

The dining line-up is deep but currently unstarred. Yu Ting Yuan, the Cantonese restaurant under chef Tommy Cheung, was awarded one MICHELIN star in the 2022 Thailand guide as the first Cantonese restaurant in the country to be starred, and it held that for several cycles, but it does not appear in the current one-star list. It should be described as formerly starred, never as a current star. Around it sit Riva del Fiume for Italian, Brasserie Palmier for French on the riverfront, and Chao Phraya Terrace for Thai farm-to-table cooking over charcoal. The real headline is BKK Social Club, the Latin-American-inspired cocktail bar ranked Thailand's best bar on Asia's 50 Best Bars three years running and the most in-demand table in the building. Because it draws heavy non-resident traffic in the evenings, book it before arrival rather than walking up, and expect the public areas to be busy after dinner.

What is the spa and pool like?

Water is this hotel's strongest suit. There are two temperature-controlled infinity pools at the river's edge plus a separate 35-metre lap pool, the best swimming provision of any hotel in this comparison and the clearest reason to choose it over Capella if you swim seriously. The Urban Wellness Centre covers spa treatments, holistic therapies and fitness, and its signature treatment is the Four Seasons Bangkok Signature Massage in 90 and 120-minute versions. The layout puts the pool terraces on the water, so swimming is part of the river experience rather than a rooftop separated from it. Guests who use hotel wellness heavily get more out of the facilities here than at the smaller riverside properties, simply because there is more of it and more room to spread out around it.

Where is Four Seasons Bangkok, and how do you get there?

The hotel occupies 300/1 Charoen Krung Road in Sathorn, on the east bank of the Chao Phraya in the Charoen Krung creative district, immediately alongside Capella. The riverfront is the whole point: the property fronts the water directly, with the pool terraces and several restaurants set on it. The neighbourhood is one of the more interesting parts of central Bangkok to walk, with galleries and independent food along Charoen Krung. Rail is the weak link. There is no walkable BTS station, so every city trip begins with the shuttle boat to ICONSIAM or Sathorn Pier and a connection to BTS Saphan Taksin. The boats stop in the evening, after which movement is by road. The Grand Palace is approximately 6 km upriver, typically 20 to 30 minutes. Suvarnabhumi Airport is approximately 30 km away and typically 45 to 70 minutes depending on traffic. The boat is pleasant rather than seamless, and that distinction matters on a packed itinerary.

What do guests consistently say?

The consistent praise is for the architecture and the water: the Gathy courtyards, the riverside pool terraces and the sense of resort space, which is what carried the hotel to number two in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025, the highest placing of any Bangkok property. BKK Social Club is the second recurring theme, cited as a genuine destination rather than a hotel bar, and the third is the breadth of the dining. The counter-themes are equally consistent. At 299 rooms this reads as a resort rather than an intimate hotel, and guests looking for a small property notice the scale immediately. Evening non-resident traffic through the bar makes the public areas busier than the room count alone suggests. The loss of Yu Ting Yuan's Michelin star is also noted by guests who had booked partly for it, since the hotel no longer has a starred kitchen.

Honest cons: who should skip it?

Three honest drawbacks. First, size. At 299 rooms this is the largest riverside property here and it behaves like a resort rather than an intimate hotel, and BKK Social Club pulls heavy non-resident traffic through the public areas in the evenings. Second, the hotel no longer has a starred kitchen. Yu Ting Yuan's MICHELIN star has gone and does not appear in the current guide, a genuine gap given the depth of the dining and the price bracket, particularly with two-star restaurants at Capella and the Mandarin Oriental a short boat ride away. Third, there is no walkable BTS. Every city trip starts with the shuttle boat to ICONSIAM or Sathorn Pier, which is pleasant but not seamless, and the boats stop in the evening, so late returns are by road through Charoen Krung traffic.
