Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort

The only over-water villas in Dubai, a Maldives-style stay on Palm Jumeirah.

#13 in the Top 20 Hotels in Dubai 2026

"The 2013 Anantara on Palm Jumeirah: over-water villas and a Maldives-style register, in the city."

9.3Room & Design
9.4Service
9.6Location

Why this rank: Anantara The Palm Dubai opened in 2013 on Palm Jumeirah's eastern crescent and was the first hotel in Dubai to offer over-water villas, still the only ones in the city. It runs 293 keys, roughly 260 rooms and suites plus 33 villas; the over-water villas, with private deck and direct lagoon access, are the signature accommodation. Dining spans Mekong (Asian), Bushman's (South African) and Crescendo (Mediterranean). An 800-metre private beach plus the over-water-villa product delivers a Maldives-style register at a fraction of Maldives prices. The Anantara Spa anchors the wellness side, and the eastern-crescent position is about fifteen minutes by car from Dubai Marina and twenty from Downtown. The honest caveat: it is smaller and lower-key than Atlantis next door, and the water below the villas is a calm lagoon rather than open sea. Best for a Maldives-style stay in Dubai at the entry Anantara rate.

Best room: One-Bedroom Over-Water Villa, lagoon view

Why Anantara The Palm Dubai for a Dubai stay

Anantara The Palm Dubai opened in 2013 on the eastern crescent of Palm Jumeirah and remains the only hotel in the city with over-water villas, the closest thing Dubai offers to a Maldives resort without the long-haul flight. It runs 293 keys: roughly 260 rooms and suites plus 33 villas, with the Beach Pool Villas and the over-water villas as the marquee categories. The over-water villas sit on stilts above a sheltered lagoon, each with a private terrace, plunge pool, a glass floor panel and steps straight down to the water. It is a genuinely different register from the Strip-scale resorts elsewhere on the Palm: smaller, calmer, more about the villa than the spectacle. The trade-off is honest, this is a lagoon rather than open ocean, and the resort lacks the waterpark-and-aquarium machinery of Atlantis a short shuttle away. Book here if the over-water villa itself is the reason for the trip; book Atlantis instead if you want the big-resort circus.

Best room to request

Request an Over-Water Villa, the only such product in Dubai and the whole reason to stay here, or a Three-Bedroom Beach Pool Villa for groups. Skip the entry garden rooms; at that tier you are paying Palm prices for a standard resort room.

Concierge tip

Book an over-water villa well ahead, since they are limited and they are what people come for. Take the early-morning swim off your villa steps before the lagoon fills up, and use the resort's complimentary boat shuttle to Atlantis The Palm for a day-two change of scene.

The wider context

Anantara The Palm Dubai sits at #13 on our Top 20 Hotels in Dubai list. It scored an aggregate 9.6/10 across the three editorial criteria, held back on scale and facilities but lifted by a villa product nothing else in the city matches. For alternatives in the same stretch of Palm Jumeirah, see the siblings below.

With dates settled, the booking window that works is about twelve weeks ahead. The view-facing suites disappear earliest, and high-season inventory moves on a timescale of months, not weeks. Suites with a private plunge pool or terrace, the very rooms behind this rank, usually vanish first.

Why this hotel works in Dubai

Editorial · #13 on the Top 20 Hotels in Dubai 2026 list

Anantara The Palm Dubai's case for a Dubai stay is the over-water villa. The 2013 property on Palm Jumeirah's eastern crescent was the first hotel in Dubai to offer the format and still holds the only over-water villas in the city.

Its 293 keys, about 260 rooms and suites plus 33 villas, run from beach rooms up to the Beach Pool Villas and the over-water villas with private deck and direct lagoon access.

Dining spans Mekong (Asian), Bushman's (South African) and Crescendo (Mediterranean). An 800-metre private beach plus the over-water villas delivers a Maldives-style register at a fraction of Maldives prices, without the long-haul flight. The Anantara Spa anchors the wellness side, and the eastern-crescent position is about fifteen minutes by car from Dubai Marina and twenty from Downtown. It deliberately runs smaller and calmer than Atlantis or the larger Palm resorts, with the villa rather than the spectacle as the point. Best for a Maldives-style stay in Dubai at the entry Anantara rate; look to Atlantis if you want scale and a waterpark instead.
