What makes Four Seasons special?

No other luxury hotel in Marrakech takes children as seriously as this one. Four Seasons runs a fully supervised Kids for All Seasons facility with its own wading pool beside the family pool, and a separate Young Adult Centre with a games room, computer stations and a movie theatre, which is a genuinely unusual combination in a city whose luxury hotels mostly assume adults. Pair that with two pools, one of them deliberately quieter and adult-oriented, two tennis courts and a 350 sqm fitness centre, and you have a resort designed for groups who want different things from the same day. The setting helps. The resort opened in June 2011 across 40 acres, roughly 16 hectares, of gardens directly opposite the historic Menara Gardens on the Hivernage and Menara side of the city, which puts it closer to both the airport and the medina than the Ouarzazate road resorts. Rooms are arranged between a main building and garden pavilions, and every guest room and pavilion room has a private terrace. It is a resort first and a Marrakech address second.

Which room should you book?

The official Four Seasons press figure is 141 rooms in total, and it is the number to use: some sources still say 139 or 130. The split is 79 guest rooms in the main building, all with private terraces, 34 Pavilion rooms in the gardens, also all with private terraces, 25 suites in the main building and gardens, and 3 villas in the gardens. That structure matters when you book. Main-building rooms put you closest to the lobby, restaurants and lifts, which suits shorter stays and anyone who does not want a long walk to dinner. Pavilion rooms sit out in the gardens and trade convenience for quiet and a stronger sense of space, which is the better choice for families settling in for a week. The three garden villas are the top of the range for multi-generational groups. Private terraces on every room and pavilion are the consistent feature, and they are the reason breakfast outdoors works so well here.

Where should you eat and drink?

There is no celebrity-chef signature restaurant here, and that is a deliberate positioning rather than an oversight. The line-up is built for a resort where guests eat on site several days running: Quattro is the main restaurant, with 80 indoor and 40 outdoor covers; Azzera is the lounge, with 70 outdoor covers and rendered in several sources as Azzera Grill; Inara Lounge seats 60 indoors and 56 outside; and Zest is the rooftop bar, with 76 outdoor covers and the best light on the property at sunset. Cuisine spans Moroccan, Andalusian, southern Italian and international, which is a range built for repeat visits rather than a single showpiece dinner. To be clear about a claim you will see elsewhere: no restaurant here holds a Michelin star, because Michelin publishes no restaurant selection for Morocco at all. Unlike several rivals in the city, this hotel makes no starred-chef claim in the first place.

What is the spa and pool like?

The spa is one of the most thoroughly equipped in Marrakech. Le Spa has eight single treatment rooms, a couples suite, a dedicated sound-healing room, a waxing room and a hair and nail salon, plus a spa garden and relaxation lounge. The wet areas are separate for men and women, and each side has a sauna, a warm whirlpool, a steam room, a Moroccan hammam and both indoor and outdoor plunge pools, which is unusually complete. Selected treatments are available for children over 12, which fits the resort's family positioning. On the water, there are two pools: a family pool with an adjacent wading pool beside the Kids for All Seasons facility, and a quieter adult-oriented pool. Two tennis courts and a 350 sqm fitness centre complete the picture.

Where is Four Seasons, and how do you get there?

The resort sits at 1 Boulevard de la Menara, directly across from the historic Menara Gardens on the Hivernage and Menara side of the city, and it is the best-placed of the big resort hotels for transfers. Marrakech Menara Airport is 10 minutes by car, the shortest run of any resort on this list, since the airport lies about 5 km south-west of the medina. Official copy describes an easy walk to the medina and old city; independent reviews put that at roughly a 20-minute walk to most major destinations, so treat it as walkable in cool weather and a short taxi otherwise. The Menara Gardens opposite are a genuine amenity, with their historic basin and pavilion. The honest reading is that this is a resort on the city's edge rather than a medina hotel: close enough that a taxi to Jemaa el-Fna is quick and cheap, far enough that the old city does not come to you.

Second, it is genuinely family-heavy, with a kids' club, a young adult centre and a family pool, so couples wanting adults-only quiet should look elsewhere, notwithstanding the second, quieter pool. Third, aircraft noise overhead is reported by guests and is the direct price of being 10 minutes from the airport; ask about room position if you are a light sleeper. Housekeeping timing and room noise also recur in reviews, which is surprising at this level and worth flagging to the front desk early. None of this is a failure of quality so much as a mismatch of expectations, so match the hotel to the trip you actually want.
