Why Hôtel Brach for a proposal

Hôtel Brach is Philippe Starck's most fully realised hotel in Paris. It opened in 2018 in a converted 1970s mail-sorting building; the 16th-arrondissement location is residential rather than tourist, and the hotel's character reflects that — this is a hotel for people who live in Paris, not for people visiting it. The rooftop garden has chickens, vegetable beds, a beehive (the hotel produces its own honey), and an Eiffel Tower view. The pool is one of the largest in any small Paris hotel. The bakery on the ground floor is run by the same team behind the hotel's restaurant and is famous in its own right. Brach is the proposal hotel for couples who already know Paris well and do not want to stay in the obvious places. If you have proposed in a Place Vendôme suite before — or if your partner has been to enough Paris palace hotels that the form is known — Brach is the quiet, design-led, slightly contrarian alternative. Ask for a top-floor suite with rooftop garden access; the proposal works best on the rooftop with the Tower in the background and a chicken in the foreground.

Best room to request

Top-floor suite with rooftop garden access. Or any room on the rear façade for the Eiffel Tower angle.

Concierge tip

Reserve the Brach rooftop garden privately for thirty minutes at sunset. Champagne, no other guests. The Eiffel Tower view is at the right angle here for the photograph; ask the staff for a Polaroid afterwards (the hotel keeps an iconic camera at reception).

The wider context

Hôtel Brach sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Paris for a Proposal list. It scored an aggregate 9.5/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on proposal-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Paris neighbourhood, see 16th arrondissement, Trocadéro and adjacent. For a different city entirely — Lake Como, Capri, or New York — see the related lists below.

If you have already chosen the ring and the date, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. Most palace hotels in Paris hold their proposal-grade suites at premium rates that release closer to the date — but the best rooms with balconies and views go first, and the inventory for the popular months (April–June, September, December) is quoted in months, not weeks.
