The Canaves Oia portfolio runs four properties on the Oia cliffside; Canaves Oia Suites is the original and remains the best of them for honeymoons. Twenty-six suites in restored captains' houses, the upper tier with private heated plunge pools that face directly into the caldera. The hotel's ace is the wine cave, a private dining room in the lava-rock cellar where the chef serves a six-course tasting menu paired with Assyrtiko and Vinsanto wines from the island. It is the longest dinner on the caldera in the best sense; you arrive at 8pm and leave at midnight. Canaves operates with a calmer tone than Katikies, fewer Instagram tours, more returning guests. If your honeymoon is more about the fifteenth glass of wine in a cave with someone you love than about the sunset photograph, this is the hotel.
