Four Seasons Hotel Firenze

A 116-room, 15th-century Medici-era palazzo with the largest private garden in central Florence.

The Four Seasons occupies a 15th-century Medici-era palazzo wrapped around the largest private garden in central Florence. For an anniversary it is the city's grandest stay: 116 rooms, a Michelin-starred restaurant and 11 acres of green, with the one trade-off that you are a short walk, not steps, from the Duomo.

Why Four Seasons Hotel Firenze for an anniversary

The Four Seasons Hotel Firenze opened in 2008 in two restored historic palazzi off Borgo Pinti, a short walk northeast of the Duomo. The heart of it is the Palazzo della Gherardesca, built in 1473 in the Medici circle, and the real draw is what surrounds it: the Giardino della Gherardesca, at roughly 11 acres the largest private garden in central Florence and a rare thing to have in a city this dense. The 116 rooms and suites are split between the two buildings, no two alike, with frescoes and silk in the grandest. Il Palagio, on the ground floor of the main palazzo, holds a Michelin star for its Tuscan cooking and is the natural place for an anniversary dinner, with the Atrium Bar and the spa rounding out the stay. The honest caveat for an anniversary is location and scale: Borgo Pinti is a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Duomo and the river rather than right among them, and at 116 rooms this is a large hotel, not an intimate one. You come for the garden and the grandeur.

Best room to request

Request a garden-view room overlooking the Giardino della Gherardesca; for a special anniversary, the Royal Suite della Gherardesca is the grandest in the main palazzo.

Concierge tip

Reserve a table at Il Palagio in advance and ask for the garden terrace in warm weather. Start the next morning with a slow walk through the Giardino della Gherardesca before the city wakes up; for most guests it is the highlight of the stay.

The wider context

Four Seasons Hotel Firenze sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Tuscany for an Anniversary list. It scored an aggregate 9.8/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on an anniversary-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Tuscany neighbourhood, see Florence (Borgo Pinti, Renaissance-city centre) and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.

If your dates are fixed, book around the three-month mark. The garden-view rooms and the larger suites go earliest, and high-season Florence inventory moves on a timescale of months, not weeks.
