The five regions
Ubud (central highlands)

Best for: wellness retreats, anniversary celebrations, cultural travel.
Uluwatu / Bukit Peninsula (south)

Nusa Dua (south coast)

How to choose
A specific framework:
- For wellness focus: Ubud (Como Shambhala or Four Seasons Sayan)
- For anniversary or honeymoon: split between Ubud and Uluwatu
- For weekend escape: Seminyak (Legian)
- For surf or design: Uluwatu (Alila Villas or Bulgari)
- For digital nomad / longer stays: Canggu
- For family beach: Nusa Dua or Four Seasons Sayan
How to combine regions
Three combinations work well:
Ubud + Uluwatu
The most-popular combination. 4 nights jungle + 4 nights cliff. The variety produces the strongest Bali trip.
Ubud + Seminyak
For couples wanting beach with restaurant access. 4 nights jungle + 4 nights beach.
Ubud + Nusa Lembongan
For travellers wanting a smaller-island component. 4 nights jungle + 4 nights small island (30-min boat from Sanur).
Practical advice
Three Bali-specific points:
Transport between regions
Ubud to Uluwatu: 90 minutes by car (with traffic, can be 2.5 hours). Ubud to Seminyak: 60 minutes by car. Anywhere to airport: 60-180 minutes depending on traffic.
Driver vs car
Rent a driver, not a car. Driving in Bali is genuinely difficult.
Avoid Kuta
Kuta is over-developed and tourist-grade. Skip it.

- Multi-region trips (Ubud + Uluwatu) produce the best 7+ night Bali experiences
