Hotel cooking classes are not the same as a workshop at a culinary school. They are intimate, chef-led, and tied to the hotel's signature cuisine.

The hotels

Castello del Nero Tuscany

Tuscan cooking with the executive chef. Pasta, pizza, classic Tuscan dishes. Half-day class.

Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons

Raymond Blanc's cooking school. Multi-day programmes available.

Royal Mansour Marrakech

Moroccan tagine and pastilla classes in a riad kitchen.

Aman Bali

Balinese cooking with the local chef. Market visit + cooking + meal.

Como Castello del Nero — Pasta classes

Tuscan pasta, hand-rolled, finished at the dining table.

Capri Palace

Mediterranean cuisine class — pasta, pizza, dolce.

Hotel de la Cite Carcassonne

Cassoulet and southern French classics.

Singita Lebombo South Africa

Bush-cooking class — open fire, traditional South African dishes.

What to expect

A 3-4 hour class with the chef. Often: market visit (or vegetable garden walk), demonstration of techniques, hands-on cooking, then a meal of what you cooked. Wine pairing typical.

Cost: $200-$500 per person depending on hotel. Group sizes 4-12. Solo travelers welcome.

Five rules

  1. Book 30+ days out — popular classes fill
  2. Solo travelers are welcome — don't skip on this
  3. Wine pairing is part of the meal
  4. Apron and recipe card go home with you
  5. Photo with the chef matters — ask for it
