A wedding hotel needs to handle two crowds: the wedding party (small, demanding, in residence for 5+ nights) and the guest list (large, in for 2-3 nights, mostly self-managing).
What works
Resort with ceremony space
Belmond Cap Juluca (beach ceremony + 100+ rooms), Sandy Lane (lawn ceremony, 113 rooms), Como Parrot Cay (full island for 100-guest weddings).
Boutique with full-property buyout
Twin Farms Vermont (20 rooms — intimate weddings of 30-40 guests), Cap Estel Eze (intimate Riviera weddings).
City hotel with ceremony space
Aman Venice (palace ceremony), Hotel de Russie Rome (rooftop ceremony), Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc (Riviera tradition).
The room block
Most luxury hotels offer room blocks at a 10-15% discount for 10+ rooms. The block is held until 30 days out, then any unbooked rooms release. Brides typically:
- Block 50-80% of expected guests
- Negotiate complimentary suite for couple
- Negotiate breakfast inclusion
- Negotiate site-visit fees waived
Concessions for high-volume blocks
For 30+ room blocks: free welcome reception, free shuttle, free room for officiant.
Wedding-week schedule
- Wednesday: bride/groom arrive
- Thursday: rehearsal dinner (off-property usually)
- Friday: pre-wedding events
- Saturday: wedding
- Sunday: brunch
- Monday: depart
Most hotels handle 5-night wedding weeks with depth. Anything shorter feels rushed.
Five rules
- Site visit before contract signing — non-negotiable
- Block 50-80% of expected guests, with concessions for the bride/groom
- Couple's suite is comp — always negotiate this
- Off-property rehearsal dinner gives the hotel a clean stage
- Wedding planner liaison with hotel coordinator — they speak the same language
