The Hotel

XV Beacon opened in 2000 in a 1903 Beaux-Arts office building on Beacon Street — the address that faces the Massachusetts State House directly and sits at the top of Beacon Hill, the most historically charged neighbourhood in American history. The 63 rooms are distinguished from every other hotel in Boston by two features: working gas fireplaces in every room, and the hotel's Rolls-Royce fleet, which serves as the house car for guest transportation.

The rooms are finished in a warm, traditional Boston palette — leather, dark wood, and the kind of textiles that the Brahmins of Beacon Hill would have considered appropriate. The fireplaces are operational from October through April and are the reason many guests book specifically for a winter stay. The modern art collection, displayed throughout the hotel, is the most serious in any Boston boutique.

Mooo restaurant, on the ground floor, is Boston's finest steakhouse — a menu focused on New England beef with a wine list that takes the Napa Valley's cabernet programme as seriously as its Massachusetts producers. The hotel's Rolls-Royce transfers to Logan Airport are included for suite guests and available by arrangement for other room categories.

Best for Solo Retreat

XV Beacon is Boston's finest solo hotel because it combines genuine boutique service (63 rooms, fireplace in every room, Rolls-Royce fleet) with a Beacon Hill location that puts the Public Garden, the Freedom Trail, and Mooo restaurant within a five-minute walk. A solo winter stay — fireplace, Mooo dinner, morning walk through the Granary Burying Ground — is a specific and very Boston pleasure. See all solo retreat hotels →

Best for Business

Beacon Hill's proximity to the State House, the Suffolk County courthouse, and the city's legal and financial establishment makes XV Beacon the natural choice for Boston's political and legal business community. The hotel's Rolls-Royce fleet eliminates the taxi problem. Mooo's private dining room handles groups of 8 to 24 for executive dinners. See all business hotels →
