A restored Belle Époque villa on a private cape between Nice and Monaco. Thirty-one suites with the Mediterranean on three sides, an infinity pool, and the kind of privacy that the Riviera does not generally permit.
"Restored Belle Époque villa on a private cape between Nice and Monaco. 31 suites, Mediterranean on three sides, infinity pool. Riviera privacy at its rarest."
Cap Estel occupies a private 5-acre cape in Èze-Bord-de-Mer, between Nice and Monaco on the Côte d'Azur, with the Mediterranean on three sides and the only road access via a private gated entrance. The main villa was built in 1900 as the residence of an Italian count and his Russian-aristocrat wife, was used by Aristotle Onassis as a private residence in the 1960s before being converted to a luxury hotel, and was acquired in 2004 by the current owners who completed a five-year restoration that opened the property in its current 31-suite form in 2010.
The 31 suites are distributed across the main 1900 villa (with original Belle Époque architecture, parquet, and frescoes), the smaller Beach House at the cape's edge, and the Pool Pavilion overlooking the infinity pool. Every suite has Mediterranean views; the Royal Suite — at the cape's tip with private terrace and the only single-suite-private-pool category — is the property's flagship, and the suites in the original 1900 villa retain the most original architectural detail.
The grounds — 5 acres on a private cape with the Mediterranean on three sides — are the property's defining asset. The infinity pool extends directly toward the Mediterranean from the cape's edge. The private beach is at the cape's south end. The fitness centre, tennis court, and the small spa with its single-treatment-room luxury approach are all accommodating to the property's small scale. The private boat dock provides Mediterranean access for the resort's classic launch.
Dining is at the property's single main restaurant — Cap Estel itself, in the original villa's restored dining hall, with a daily-changing Mediterranean menu under the chef brigade. The wine programme is small but exceptional, focused on Provence, Burgundy, and a curated international cellar. Service at Cap Estel is the most personal of any Riviera luxury hotel — the staff-to-guest ratio is among the highest in France, the team knows guests by name within hours, and the experience is closer to staying at a Mediterranean private home than at a hotel. Cap Estel is the answer for travellers who want the most intimate possible Riviera luxury.
The Riviera honeymoon for couples who want the smallest, most private possible setting. Book a Royal Suite for the cape-tip privacy. The infinity pool by sunrise; the private beach by afternoon; the chef's-tasting Cap Estel dinner in the evening. The honeymoon at Cap Estel is the most intimate luxury Riviera honeymoon available, and books 6+ months ahead in peak.
For milestone anniversaries Cap Estel's small scale (only 31 suites, often largely buyout-able for the right group), the Belle Époque setting, and the cape-on-three-sides privacy combine into one of the more memorable anniversary stays in France.
Cap Estel's small spa runs a programme of Mediterranean-inspired treatments. For travellers who want the wellness component to be considered alongside the more important wellness contribution of the cape itself — the sea air, the swimming, the walks along the cape's perimeter, and the unhurried pace of a 31-suite property.
