A 99-room contemporary hotel on Connaught Drive, two blocks from Jasper rail station, with studios, full-kitchen suites, and a restrained modern interior that argues against the heavy-timber lodge default.
"The cleanest contemporary read on the in-town Jasper hotel: studios with proper kitchens, two blocks from the rail station, and none of the lodge cliches."
The Crimson Jasper is the in-town hotel for travellers who do not want the deep-pile lodge aesthetic and would rather have a kitchen, a queen bed, and a quiet room two blocks from the train. Owned and run by Pursuit Banff Jasper Collection, the property completed a full interior refresh that pulled out the older furnishings in favour of light walls, oak laminate flooring, slate-grey upholstery, and modern Scandinavian-inflected casegoods. The result is the cleanest contemporary room product in central Jasper at a mid-tier rate.
The 99 rooms include standard kings and queens, larger studios with a small sitting area, and one-bedroom suites with full kitchens (induction cooktop, full-size fridge, dishwasher, cookware). The kitchen suites are the booking to make if you are spending three nights or more, particularly with children or after a long drive from Calgary when grocery shopping in town and cooking in is a better answer than a fourth restaurant meal. Bathrooms run modern, rainfall showers in most categories, full tub in the larger suites.
There is no full restaurant on property. Breakfast is offered through a continental bar with hot items and proper coffee; for dinner the property's location two blocks from Patricia Street puts the entire Jasper restaurant district within five minutes on foot. The lobby holds a small lounge with seasonal craft beer and a fire feature, and the activity desk handles SkyTram, Maligne Lake, and Columbia Icefield bookings without markup.
Amenities run to the genuinely useful: an indoor pool, a hot tub, a small fitness centre, free WiFi that holds up for video calls, free parking on site (an underrated quality in Jasper, where lot space is constrained), and a guest laundry. The hotel is on Connaught Drive, the main road through town, which gives a small amount of road noise on the front-facing rooms; ask for a courtyard-facing room if a quiet sleep is the priority.
The Crimson is the right Jasper booking for the family that does not need a full resort. A one-bedroom kitchen suite gives parents a closing door, a full kitchen for breakfast and lunch packing, and a five-minute walk to the Patricia Street restaurants for dinner. The indoor pool is small but functional, the parking is free and on site, and the proximity to the rail station matters if you are arriving on the VIA Canadian from Vancouver or Toronto.
For a solo Jasper booking with hiking and writing days, the Crimson works because the rooms are quiet, contemporary, and not over-furnished. Book a standard king on the courtyard side, walk to Coco's Cafe for morning espresso, take the SkyTram or the Maligne Canyon shuttle for active afternoons, and treat the property as the contemporary calm-room base it is rather than as a programmed retreat.
