The Hotel

Chateau Jasper sits one block off the main run of Connaught Drive on Geikie Street, in the quieter residential pocket between the village core and the Discovery Trail loop. The 119-room property is operated by Pursuit Banff Jasper Collection and was refurbished progressively through 2022 and 2023, with refreshed rooms, modernised public spaces, and a comprehensively updated indoor pool deck. The address gives the hotel its primary trade-off: 10 minutes on foot to the heart of downtown, but a meaningfully quieter night's sleep than the Connaught Drive properties.

Rooms are mid-size by Rockies standards (roughly 28 to 36 square metres) and arranged across four floors. Standard kings and two-queen rooms make up the bulk of the inventory, with a small selection of junior suites and family rooms that add a sleeper sofa or a connecting room option. The refurbished interior pulls in lighter walls, oak laminate flooring, slate-grey upholstery, and a cleaner contemporary read than the property carried under its previous owners. Bathrooms have been comprehensively updated; most categories now hold a walk-in rainfall shower with a separate bath in larger units.

The Silverwater Grill and Lounge is the on-site restaurant, and one of two reliably good in-hotel dining rooms inside Jasper townsite (the other being Papa George's at the Astoria). The menu runs to modern Rockies plates (Alberta steak, regional trout, charcuterie), the wine list is short but well chosen, and the lounge handles late drinks past 10pm, which matters in a village where most kitchens close by 9.30. Breakfast is served in the same room each morning.

The indoor pool, whirlpool, and small fitness centre are arranged across a glass-walled wellness floor that opens at 6.30am, the earliest pool opening in Jasper townsite, which is genuinely useful for guests on early Maligne Lake departures. Heated underground parking is included with every room, a rare and important amenity for winter stays. The property runs pet-friendly rooms on request, free WiFi throughout, an activity desk for SkyTram, Maligne Lake, and Columbia Icefield bookings, and a small lobby fire feature that holds through the evening.

Best Occasion Fit

Family Holiday

Chateau Jasper is the in-town family booking for parents who prioritise a quiet sleep over downtown proximity. The Geikie Street setting is residential and properly quiet at night; the heated underground parking removes the morning scraping ritual in winter; the pool opens at 6.30 for the kids who never adjust to mountain time; and the Silverwater Grill handles a workable family dinner on the night nobody can face another walk to Patricia Street.

Wellness Retreat

Wellness reads softly at Chateau Jasper as a function of the building rather than the brand. The pool deck is the most modernised of any Jasper townsite property, the early opening allows a proper morning swim before hiking, and the back of the hotel sits five minutes from the Discovery Trail loop and the Pyramid Lake Road trailheads. Book a refurbished king with a quiet rear-facing aspect, run two long active days, and treat the property as the calm base it is.
