Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda, the wellness flagship in the hills above Gargnano, is our pick for the best hotel on Lake Garda, with one of the largest destination spas on the Italian lakes and rates from about €800. For a milestone occasion the 20-room Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli, a Relais & Châteaux villa, is unmatched, and the lakefront Grand Hotel Fasano is the strongest value among the five-stars.
It depends on the shore. The western shore around Gargnano, Limone and Gardone Riviera holds Lefay, Villa Feltrinelli, Grand Hotel Fasano and EALA, and is the classic luxury base. The Sirmione peninsula in the south is home to the historic Palace Hotel Villa Cortine, while the quieter eastern shore at Torri del Benaco has the contemporary Cape of Senses.
Five-star rates on Lake Garda run roughly €350 to €1,200 a night. The Grand Hotel Fasano and the adults-only EALA start around €350–€450, Lefay's Lago di Garda resort sits near €800, and the Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli is the apex at about €1,200. Rates climb through July and August and ease in spring and autumn.
Late spring and early autumn are ideal, warm enough for the lake yet short of the July–August peak. Note that several lakefront hotels are seasonal: the Grand Hotel Fasano reopened for 2026 on 27 March and runs into early January, and the Palace Hotel Villa Cortine closes roughly from early January to late March. May, June and September give the best balance of weather and space.
They suit different travellers. Lake Garda is Italy's largest lake and the quieter, less aristocratic and generally better-value alternative to Como, with lemon groves on the western shore, the Dolomites rising to the north, and vineyards around the southern Sirmione peninsula. Como is more compact, more celebrity-driven and more expensive; Garda trades some glamour for space, variety and price.
Lefay Resort & Spa Lago di Garda is the wellness leader, built around one of the largest destination spas on the Italian lakes with saltwater pools and medical-grade programmes. Its sister resort, Lefay Resort & Spa Dolomiti in Pinzolo (in the mountains, not on the lake itself), pushes the same wellness model further, and the purpose-built Cape of Senses at Torri del Benaco is the strongest spa hotel on the eastern shore.

Two hours west. The aristocratic alternative, Garda is the quieter sister.
