May–September is Sabi Sand's dry season and peak game viewing — animals concentrate at water sources, vegetation is sparse making spotting easier. Temperatures are mild (10–25°C). October–April is wetter and greener; game still excellent but cover thicker. Christmas/New Year's books 6–9 months ahead.
Sabi Sand is a single 65,000-hectare game reserve, fenceless with Kruger National Park. The reserve is divided into private concessions operated by various lodge groups (Singita, Londolozi, MalaMala, &Beyond, Lion Sands, etc.). Each concession runs game drives only for its own guests — meaning quieter sightings than national parks. Adjacent Greater Kruger areas (Thornybush, Manyeleti) offer similar quality at slightly lower prices.
Sabi Sand's top tier runs $1,500–$2,500 per person per night, all-inclusive (meals, drinks, two daily game drives). Singita and Cheetah Plains reach $3,000–$5,500. Mid-tier runs $1,000–$1,500. Most pricing is per person and includes everything except premium drinks and helicopter transfers.
Most travelers fly into Skukuza Airport (SZK) directly via charter from Cape Town or Johannesburg, or via scheduled flights to Hoedspruit (HDS) or Nelspruit (MQP). Some lodges have their own airstrips. Lodge transfers from airstrips are typically included.
Book Singita, Londolozi, and Cheetah Plains 6–9 months ahead. Christmas/New Year's books 12+ months ahead. Cancellation windows are 60–90 days. Tipping is significant in safari — typically $20–$30 per guest per day for the ranger and tracker, plus camp staff.
