The Hotel

Sanctuary Camelback Mountain occupies 40 acres on the north face of Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley — the most exclusive residential municipality in Arizona. The 105 rooms and casitas are distributed across the mountain terrain in a way that creates genuine separation between guests, a quality almost impossible to achieve at scale and that the Sanctuary maintains through the deliberate limitation of room count. At a resort that could accommodate 600, Sanctuary chose 105. That decision is the product.

The Mountain Casitas perch at the upper elevations with private plunge pools and the most direct relationship with the mountain terrain. The Spa Casitas sit adjacent to the spa facility for those for whom the day's organisation begins and ends there. The spa itself — a dedicated building on the north slope — offers the Sonoran Escape full-day programme: an immersive sequence of treatments, poolside lunch, and two-hour cabana rental that represents the regional benchmark for a spa day.

The infinity-edge pool at Sanctuary faces south and west, which means the afternoon light hits the Valley of the Sun and the distant mountain ranges in a way that makes the decision to leave the pool feel genuinely difficult. Jade Bar, the al fresco restaurant and bar adjacent to the pool, operates as the social heart of the property — a place where excellent cocktails and small plates serve as the connective tissue between a morning at the spa and an evening at elements, Sanctuary's signature restaurant.

elements restaurant serves globally-influenced cuisine with Arizona ingredients — James Beard-recognised cooking in a room that uses the mountain view as its most important design element. The dinner here, with the Valley lights below and the mountain behind, is the defining meal of a Scottsdale stay for those who have eaten widely in the city.

Best for Honeymoon

The Sanctuary honeymoon is defined by scale. With 105 rooms across 40 acres, the resort never feels populated in the way that larger properties do. A Mountain Casita with a private plunge pool, two days of the Sonoran Escape programme, and dinners at elements watching the Valley light fade: this is the Scottsdale honeymoon that requires the least explanation and produces the most enduring memory. The concierge works with the attentiveness of a small property rather than the efficiency of a large one.

Best for Wellness Retreat

The Mountain Spa's full programme — sound bath, desert hike at sunrise, water therapies, and the Vichy treatment room — can occupy three days without repetition. The plant-forward menu options at elements and the altitude of the Paradise Valley location (above the Valley floor) add the physical context that makes the Sanctuary's wellness offering more than spa services in a beautiful setting. It is, specifically, the wellness resort for those who find dedicated wellness resorts too focused on renunciation.
