The Hotel

The Mandarin Oriental Washington DC opened in 2004 on Maryland Avenue SW — adjacent to the Tidal Basin, the Jefferson Memorial, and the National Mall's western extension — and operates as the city's most spa-focused luxury hotel. The building's position on the Tidal Basin means that the upper-floor rooms on the south and west sides have direct views of the Jefferson Memorial and, during cherry blossom season, the most famous flowering landscape in the United States.

The 400 rooms are finished in the Mandarin Oriental's warm East-meets-West palette, with the upper-floor suite configurations offering the Tidal Basin views that justify the premium. The spa is the most comprehensive in DC: 10,000 square feet, 10 treatment rooms, an indoor pool, and a programme that draws on both Asian healing traditions and European skin care.

Muze restaurant, the hotel's all-day dining venue, serves a contemporary Asian-influenced menu. The hotel's Southwest waterfront location, while less central than the Georgetown or 16th Street properties, is compensated by the Monument views and the proximity to the National Mall — a 10-minute walk reaches the Lincoln Memorial.

Best for Anniversary

The Tidal Basin view during cherry blossom season is the most romantically charged hotel view in Washington DC — and the Mandarin Oriental's position provides it directly. A Tidal Basin-facing suite, the spa afternoon, and a Muze dinner constitute a DC anniversary that is specifically linked to the city's most beautiful natural spectacle. See all anniversary hotels →

Best for Wellness

The Mandarin Oriental DC spa programme is the best argument for choosing this hotel over the Four Seasons or Rosewood for a wellness-oriented stay. The 10-treatment-room facility, the indoor pool, and the programme's consistency make it DC's most complete wellness hotel. The Tidal Basin morning walk adds a natural dimension that the Georgetown hotels cannot replicate. See all wellness hotels →
