InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa opened in 2006 on Motu Piti Aau, the outer reef islet whose name means "islet of two hearts," and its signature is the Deep Ocean Spa, the only thalassotherapy spa in Bora Bora, which draws cold seawater from roughly 915 metres (about 3,000 feet) down for its treatments. Around 84 overwater villas sit over the lagoon, each with the resort's glass-floor panel for watching the marine life below. For a honeymoon, the draw is the pairing of those glass-floor villas with the deep-ocean spa and a clear sightline to Mount Otemanu across the water. The honest trade-off is logistics and cost: the resort sits on an outer motu, so every arrival is a boat transfer and a run into Vaitape is a scheduled shuttle rather than a stroll, and the all-overwater layout leaves little real beach. Best for couples who want the spa-and-lagoon version of Bora Bora and are content to stay put on the motu.
Request an overwater villa on the sunset side, oriented toward Mount Otemanu, so the glass floor and the mountain view land in the same room.
