Why The Wellesley Knightsbridge for business

The Wellesley Knightsbridge opened in 2012 in the restored Edwardian-baroque corner building at the junction of Knightsbridge and Park Lane, two minutes' walk from Hyde Park Corner. The hotel was the original Hyde Park Corner Tube station building (1900) before becoming the Park Lane Brasserie nightclub in the 1960s. Thirty-six rooms only — the smallest count of any Knightsbridge palace property — operating as a hotel-within-a-club concept. The Wellesley Cigar Lounge is the working asset of the property and one of the few London hotel cigar lounges that still operates with a Cuban-cigar humidor and a separate ventilation system. The Crystal Bar serves rare champagnes and vintage cognacs; the Oval Restaurant is the in-house dining. The Wellesley is the right pick for the London business trip with Middle-Eastern-family-office clients (the cigar lounge is the working venue), with senior private-banking clients who prefer the smaller-scale operating culture, and with the Knightsbridge-Hyde-Park-Corner geographic position where Park Lane is one block north and Sloane Street one block south. The smaller scale (36 rooms vs 200+ at the Mandarin Oriental) means the staff-to-guest ratio produces the most-personalised service of any London competitor at this tier.

Best room to request

Wellesley Suite (the multi-room flagship) or Junior Suite for the working tier.

The wider context

The Wellesley Knightsbridge sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in London for Business list. It scored an aggregate 9.6/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on business-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same London neighbourhood, see Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.

If you have already chosen the dates, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces — the ones that earn this rank — are typically the first to sell out.
