Knightsbridge, the Wellesley Cigar Lounge for the after-meeting, the discreet financial-meet.
"Knightsbridge, the Wellesley Cigar Lounge for the after-meeting, the discreet financial-meet."
The Wellesley Knightsbridge opened in 2012 in a restored Edwardian-baroque corner building at the junction of Knightsbridge and Park Lane, two minutes' walk from Hyde Park Corner. The site began as the Hyde Park Corner Underground station of 1906, with Leslie Green's ox-blood faience facade, and later housed the Pizza on the Park jazz and cabaret venue before its conversion to a hotel. Thirty-six rooms only, the smallest count of any Knightsbridge palace property, run on a hotel-within-a-club model. The Wellesley Cigar Lounge is the property's signature, one of the few London hotel cigar lounges still operating with a Cuban-cigar humidor and dedicated ventilation. The Crystal Bar pours rare champagnes and vintage cognacs, and the Oval Restaurant handles the in-house dining. It suits the London business trip built around private-office or private-banking clients who prefer a smaller operating culture, with Park Lane a block north and Sloane Street a block south. The honest trade-off is scale: at thirty-six rooms there is no large spa or pool, and the public rooms are intimate rather than grand.
Wellesley Suite (the multi-room flagship) or Junior Suite for the entry tier.
The Wellesley Cigar Lounge at 9pm, the after-meeting room, members-and-guests only. The Crystal Bar at 6.30pm for the pre-dinner cocktail. The corner two-top by the windows is the editor's table.
The Wellesley Knightsbridge sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in London for Business list. It scored an aggregate 9.6/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on business-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same London neighbourhood, see Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.
Once your dates are fixed, aim to reserve the room about three months out. Expect the best-positioned suites to go early; in the busy season the lead time is months, not weeks. Top-category rooms with private pools or terraces, the reason this hotel ranks here, are routinely the first gone.
