COMO Maalifushi is the southernmost five-star private-island resort in the Maldives — Thaa Atoll, 40 minutes by seaplane from Malé, almost certainly the only resort in the atoll you will see from your villa deck. Sixty-five villas, both beach and overwater, the upper tier with private pools. The resort opened in 2014 and has been continuously upgraded; the 2022 renovation added the COMO Shambhala spa overwater extension that puts treatment rooms directly above the reef. Maalifushi has two house surf breaks — Farms (a left-hand reef break, 200 metres from the beach) and Frog (a right-hand reef break, accessible by boat) — and surf instruction is included in the resort programme. The dining is two restaurants: Madi (the over-water Italian-Maldivian) and Tai (the open-air Asian fusion). COMO Maalifushi is the right pick for the honeymoon couple who wants the COMO discipline — same brand DNA as Cocoa Island — without the smaller boutique scale, with two surf breaks and a stronger dive programme. The remote southern atoll position also means quieter house reef snorkelling than the Malé-Atolls resorts can offer.
