Why Six Senses Laamu for a honeymoon

Six Senses Laamu is the only resort in Laamu Atoll — a remote southern atoll a 65-minute domestic flight followed by a 15-minute speedboat from Malé — which means the resort has the entire atoll's lagoon, reef, and house surf break to itself. Ninety-seven villas, half on the beach, half over the water, all built from sustainable Indonesian ironwood and finished with locally-sourced materials. Six Senses' sustainability programme is the most serious in the Maldives — the resort produces its own bottled water, runs a no-single-use-plastic operation, and has a reef-restoration project that has produced documented coral recovery on a previously-bleached section of the lagoon. The signature surf break — Yin Yang, a left-and-right peeling wave 200 metres off the resort beach — is one of the best surfing waves in the Maldives. Six Senses also operates Sea Hub, the over-water dining cluster, and Leaf, the spa where the Discovery Sound Bath is the most-recommended couples' wellness session in the Maldives. For the honeymoon couple where one partner surfs, or for couples who want a sustainability-driven resort that does not compromise on luxury, Six Senses Laamu is the answer.

Best room to request

Ocean Water Villa with Pool — the surf-break-facing overwater unit. Or a Laamu Water Villa for the lagoon-side option.

Concierge tip

If anyone in the couple surfs, the Yin Yang break is a real reason to choose this resort over closer options — book a private boat to the wave for day two. The Discovery Sound Bath at Leaf Spa is unique to the property; book it for day five.

The wider context

Six Senses Laamu sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in the Maldives for a Honeymoon list. It scored an aggregate 9.7/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on a honeymoon-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Maldives neighbourhood, see Laamu Atoll and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.

If you have already chosen the dates, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces — the ones that earn this rank — are typically the first to sell out.
