Mokapu Beach, four-pool tier, the design-led family pick.
"Mokapu Beach, four-pool tier, the design-led family pick."
Andaz Maui at Wailea opened in 2013 as the design-led alternative to Wailea's older five-star resorts, Hyatt's first Andaz in a resort destination, with interiors by the Rockwell Group. For families, the draw is concrete: direct access to Mokapu Beach, a calm, snorkel-soft stretch right in front of the property, and a four-tier infinity pool that steps down the cliff toward the sand, with a family pool up top and an adults-only pool at the bottom. Multi-bedroom villas with private pools handle the multi-generational booking, grandparents and parents and kids under one roof, and the resort's kids' club leans into Hawaiian culture, lei-making, hula, and canoe-paddling, rather than the generic tropical-camp formula. The honest catch: Andaz is a contemporary, design-forward property, not a waterslide-and-mascot megaresort, so families set on a big aquatic playground will be happier at the Grand Wailea up the road. Pick Andaz when the aesthetic and the cultural programming matter as much as the pool.
A multi-bedroom villa with a private pool for the multi-generational trip, or a one-bedroom suite for the family-of-four option.
Book a multi-bedroom villa eight weeks ahead for a multi-generational trip; there are only a handful and they go first. The kids' club's lei-making and hula sessions are the part of the day worth building around.
Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Maui for a Family Holiday list. It scored an aggregate 9.7/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on a family holiday-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Maui neighbourhood, see Wailea, south coast and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.
Have firm dates? Our editor's advice is to book roughly twelve weeks in advance. Expect the best-positioned suites to go early; in the busy season the lead time is months, not weeks. The plunge-pool and terrace suites, the categories that justify this ranking, tend to sell out before anything else.
