Park Hyatt New York opened in 2014 at One57 on West 57th Street, occupying floors 1-25 of the Christian de Portzamparc-designed tower. Two hundred and ten rooms, small count by midtown standards, every one with the Park Hyatt standard desk product (a real desk that fits a working laptop and notes, not a writing surface). The asset is the engineering, the building is one of the most acoustically-isolated hotel towers in Manhattan, with the result that the sleep on the upper floors is the quietest in the city. For the European-time-zone executive who needs to sleep through 11pm-to-6am calls happening across the building, this matters. The 25th-floor Spa Nalai is the only hotel spa in midtown with a full-length lap pool that overlooks Carnegie Hall. The Living Room (the lobby lounge) is a working space rather than a tea room. Park Hyatt is the right pick for the business trip where reliable execution matters more than narrative, the rooms are large enough, the desks are right, the Wi-Fi is fast, the room service is 24-hour, and the location is central to the Sixth and Seventh Avenue financial corridor. The hotel does not have the Aman positioning or the Plaza recognition, but it is the most-reliable business hotel in midtown.
