Why The Peninsula Paris for a proposal

The Peninsula opened in Paris in 2014 in the restored Hotel Majestic — the building that hosted the negotiations of the Paris Peace Accords in 1973. The restoration cost roughly €700 million and produced the most technologically advanced palace hotel in the city: every room has fingerprint check-in, a tablet that controls every aspect of the suite, and a near-silent valet pass-through cupboard. The proposal asset, however, is L'Oiseau Blanc — the rooftop restaurant on the sixth floor named after the 1927 transatlantic biplane attempt. A full-scale replica of the white biplane sits on the glass roof of the dining room. The terrace looks straight down Avenue Kléber to the Eiffel Tower. On a clear night, with the biplane overhead and the tower sparkling at 9pm, the dining room is the most cinematic proposal restaurant in Paris. The hotel's underground pool is one of the largest in any Paris palace; the spa is Asian in DNA and feels more contemporary than its competitors. The Peninsula is the proposal hotel for couples who want palace service without the patrician accent.

Best room to request

Peninsula Suite — corner suite on a high floor with full Eiffel-tower view. Or the Historic Suite for the Paris Peace Accords lineage.

Concierge tip

Book the L'Oiseau Blanc terrace table for 8.45pm. Champagne by 9pm. The Eiffel Tower sparkles at 9pm; propose at the 9pm sparkle. The chef will send a pre-arranged dessert with the ring on the plate, if requested in advance.

The wider context

The Peninsula Paris sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Paris for a Proposal list. It scored an aggregate 9.7/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on proposal-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Paris neighbourhood, see 16th arrondissement, Avenue Kléber and adjacent. For a different city entirely — Lake Como, Capri, or New York — see the related lists below.

If you have already chosen the ring and the date, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. Most palace hotels in Paris hold their proposal-grade suites at premium rates that release closer to the date — but the best rooms with balconies and views go first, and the inventory for the popular months (April–June, September, December) is quoted in months, not weeks.
