Sri panwa

Cape Panwa headland, east coast  ·  rates on request

Sri panwa occupies the tip of Cape Panwa on Phuket's sheltered south-east coast, which keeps the water calm when west-coast beaches are red-flagged. Around 50 private pool villas and suites plus residences spread over a rainforest headland, topped by Baba Nest, the rooftop sunset bar. The estate is punishingly steep.

"Baba Nest rooftop sunset bar and sheltered east coast water in monsoon season, set on a punishingly steep hillside estate."

What makes Sri panwa special?

Two things make Sri panwa different, and the first is geography. It occupies the tip of Cape Panwa, the headland at Phuket's south-eastern corner, across roughly 80 rai of rainforest rising to about 60 metres above the sea. Facing east and south-east, away from the Andaman monsoon swell, its small private beach stays far calmer from May to October than any west-coast beach on this island. If you are travelling in low season and want to actually swim in the sea, that orientation is worth more than any award. The second is Baba Nest, the rooftop bar built as a shallow reflecting pool around a 360-degree deck, 60 metres up. It is one of the most photographed venues in Thailand and has repeatedly been named among the world's best rooftop bars, and it is effectively the resort's signature. Be clear on what it is not: the water around the deck is a reflecting pool, not a swimming pool. Note also that Sri panwa is Thai-owned and independent, holds no MICHELIN Key and has no starred restaurant, so its reputation rests on setting and media rather than inspectors.

Which room should you book?

Sri panwa is a pool-villa resort in the true sense: the villas and suites are private-pool accommodation, and the brand's own full name is Sri panwa Phuket Luxury Pool Villa Hotel. Do not fix on a single villa total. Published counts sit at roughly 52 luxury villas and suites, plus a set of larger private residences and the Habita enclave of 24 pool suites alongside two convention halls, but residences move in and out of the rental pool, so the number shifts. Around 50 pool villas and suites plus private residences is the safe way to hold it in your head. What matters more than the count is where on the headland your villa sits. The estate covers roughly 80 rai and rises to about 60 metres, so a villa at the top means views and steps, and a villa lower down means a shorter walk. Ask for a position when you book, and use the 24-hour buggy service.

Where should you eat and drink?

Dining here means Baba Nest first and everything else second. The rooftop sunset bar sits about 60 metres above the Andaman at the top of the cape, a 360-degree deck ringed by a shallow reflecting pool, and it is the single most photographed thing at this resort and one of the most photographed venues in Thailand. Book it well in advance, because the deck is small, demand is constant and a sunset seat is not something you can turn up and expect. The rest of the food and beverage runs through the Baba group of outlets on the property. We are not going to list individual restaurant names beyond Baba Nest, because we could not verify the current line-up against a primary source and inventing outlets is not something we do. Check the resort's own dining page when you book. There is no MICHELIN-starred restaurant here, and none anywhere on Phuket other than PRU at Trisara. Old Phuket Town is roughly 20 to 30 minutes away, which gives this resort the best town access in our Phuket list.

What is the spa and pool like?

Wellness runs through Cool Spa, Sri panwa's own in-house brand rather than a licensed name from elsewhere. The villas and suites are private-pool accommodation, so most guests swim at their own villa rather than queueing for a lounger, and the total number of communal pools on the estate is not something the resort publishes. The genuine wellness advantage here is the water off the beach. Cape Panwa faces east and south-east, sheltered from the southwest monsoon, so the small private beach stays swimmable from May to October when Kamala, Patong, Bang Tao and Nai Harn are taking surf and red flags. A 24-hour buggy service covers the estate, which you will use more than you expect, because walking this headland is a workout rather than a stroll.

Where is Sri panwa, and how do you get there?

Sri panwa sits at the tip of Cape Panwa, the headland at Phuket's south-eastern corner, at 88 Moo 8, Sakdidej Road, Vichit, Muang. This is the east coast, and the orientation is the point. Facing away from the Andaman swell, the small private beach here stays calm from May to October while the west-coast beaches are taking monsoon surf. The trade is distance. Phuket International Airport is roughly 50 to 60 minutes away in traffic, the longest transfer in our Phuket list, and Phuket has one main north-south road that congests. What you gain is town: Old Phuket Town and its Sino-Portuguese shophouses are roughly 20 to 30 minutes away, the best town access of any resort in this set, which makes evenings out realistic rather than theoretical. Nothing at all is walkable from the cape itself, and the estate covers roughly 80 rai of rainforest rising to about 60 metres, so you are on the buggy service to move around.

What do guests consistently say?

Guest feedback on Sri panwa is consistent and it is mostly about the hill. Reviewers describe internal roads that are very steep and flights of steps without handrails, with one review counting 48 steps between room and breakfast, and the tuk-tuk and buggy service becomes something you depend on rather than a convenience. Families with small children, older guests and anyone with a mobility limitation should read that carefully. The second recurring theme is condition: guests repeatedly note that some villas are showing their age and need refurbishment, and that in-room service can be slow. The third is Baba Nest, which is small and heavily booked, so a sunset seat is not guaranteed even for in-house guests. Set against that, the views, the privacy of the villa pools and the calm east-coast water in low season are what people come back for. Go in expecting a spectacular but demanding property rather than a polished, effortless one.

Honest cons: who should skip it?

Four honest problems. First and biggest, the terrain. The estate is built on an extremely steep headland, and guests report internal roads that are very steep and flights of steps without handrails, including one count of 48 steps from room to breakfast. You will depend on the tuk-tuk and buggy service, and the property is hard work with small children, elderly guests or any mobility limitation. Second, distance. At roughly 50 to 60 minutes from the airport in traffic this is the furthest resort in our Phuket list, which costs you time on a short trip. Third, condition and service. Guest feedback repeatedly notes that some villas are showing their age and need refurbishment, and that in-room service can be slow, which is a fair criticism at this level. Fourth, Baba Nest is small and heavily booked, so the view that sold you the resort is not a seat you are guaranteed. Book it the day you book the room.

Sri panwa: frequently asked questions

Can you swim at Sri panwa in the monsoon season?

Usually yes, and that is its main advantage. Sri panwa's private beach sits on Cape Panwa's sheltered east and south-east coast, facing away from the Andaman swell, so the water stays far calmer from May to October than Phuket's west-coast beaches, which get surf and red flags.

Does Sri panwa have a MICHELIN Key?

No. Sri panwa does not appear in the 2025 MICHELIN Key Selection for Thailand, and it has no MICHELIN-starred restaurant either. Its reputation is media and awards driven, built largely on Baba Nest. Phuket's only starred restaurant is PRU at Trisara, a different resort.

Can you swim in the pool at Baba Nest?

No. The water ringing Baba Nest's 360-degree deck is a shallow reflecting pool, a design feature rather than a swimming pool, and it is not for bathing. Swim in your villa pool instead. Baba Nest is a sunset bar, small, heavily booked, and worth reserving early.

How many villas does Sri panwa have?

There is no single reliable number. Published counts sit at roughly 52 luxury villas and suites, plus larger private residences and the Habita enclave of 24 pool suites, but residences move in and out of the rental pool, so totals shift. Treat any exact figure as approximate.

How far is Sri panwa from Phuket airport and Old Phuket Town?

The airport is roughly 50 to 60 minutes by car in traffic, the longest transfer in our Phuket list. Old Phuket Town, however, is only about 20 to 30 minutes away, which is the best town access of any resort here. Nothing is walkable from the cape.
