The Best Luxury Resorts in Phuket 2026

Twelve resorts across the west coast beaches, the eastern headlands and one private island, ranked by villa product, service depth and the kind of Phuket each one captures.

Phuket's luxury is decided by beach and by whether your villa has its own pool. Our top pick is Trisara, where all 48 suites and villas have a private infinity pool and PRU is the only Michelin-starred restaurant on the island. Amanpuri follows, though it is closed until 13 September 2026. Note that several well-known resorts here are not on the beach at all, and one is not on Phuket island.

Affiliate disclosure: When you book through links on this site we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. We rank editorially and never accept payment for placement. Resort status, villa product and Michelin ratings were verified against official sources and the 2026 Michelin Guide Thailand in July 2026.

Phuket rewards precision about two things, and almost all disappointment here comes from getting them wrong. The first is the beach: the west coast from Nai Thon down through Surin, Kamala and Patong faces the Andaman sunset and takes the full monsoon swell, while the eastern headlands at Cape Panwa and Cape Yamu stay sheltered and calm but have little or no sand. The second is the pool. A private pool villa is the defining Phuket luxury, and resort marketing blurs the line relentlessly between a villa with its own pool, a room with access to a shared lagoon, and no pool at all.

This ranking is explicit on both counts. Trisara, Rosewood Phuket, Keemala and Banyan Tree give every villa its own pool. Anantara Layan gives them to villas but not to rooms and suites. InterContinental Phuket has 221 keys and only 13 true pool villas, where a Pool Access Lagoon Villa means a shared lagoon. COMO Point Yamu has pools in its 27 villas but not in its 79 rooms and suites. The Slate has seven across 185 keys. The Nai Harn, for all its Leading Hotels membership and its position above the island's best-rated beach, has none at all across 130 rooms.

Three further facts worth knowing before booking. Michelin does cover Phuket, but barely: in the 2026 selection the island has exactly one starred restaurant, PRU at Trisara, and the Green Star it also holds is a sustainability award rather than a second star. Restaurants such as hom, Jaras and Ta Khai are Guide-listed, which is not a star. Amanpuri, ranked second here, is closed from 15 May to 13 September 2026, which covers most of low season. And The Naka Island is not on Phuket at all: it occupies its own island off the east coast, reachable only by boat.

Trisara

Trisara, luxury hotel in Phuket

"Every one of the 48 suites and villas has a private infinity pool, and PRU is the only Michelin starred restaurant on the entire island."

9.7Room & Design
9.7Service
9.2Location

Why this rank: Trisara's defining claim is verifiable and unique on the island: PRU, its fine-dining restaurant, is the only MICHELIN-starred restaurant anywhere in Phuket in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide Thailand selection, and it holds a MICHELIN Green Star for sustainability at the same time. That Green Star is a sustainability award, not a second rating star, and no other Phuket hotel can point to a star at all. The second differentiator is structural. Every one of the 48 suites, villas and residences has its own private infinity pool, which makes this the cleanest all private pool claim in the Phuket luxury set, with nothing to check category by category. The resort sits on the north-western tip of the island above its own secluded private bay next to Nai Thon Beach, reserved for guests in residence, and it is owned and operated by Montara Hospitality rather than an international chain. Trisara also carries one MICHELIN Key in the 2025 Key Selection, a hotel award that is separate from restaurant stars. The airport transfer is roughly 15 to 20 minutes, one of the shortest of any top-tier resort here, so the remoteness costs you very little arrival time.

Best for: Couples and families who want a guaranteed private pool and Phuket's only MICHELIN-starred dinner on site

#2 in Phuket

Amanpuri

Pansea Beach, west coast  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Amanpuri, luxury hotel in Phuket

"The three Michelin Key original Aman, opened in 1988, though it closes from 15 May to 13 September 2026 and misses most of low season."

9.7Room & Design
9.6Service
9.0Location

Why this rank: Amanpuri is the resort that invented the category. It opened in 1988 as the first Aman, designed by American architect Ed Tuttle in an Ayutthaya-inspired idiom on a coconut-planted headland above Pansea Beach, and the modern ultra-luxury villa retreat essentially starts here. That lineage is the product. The measurable version of it is the 2025 MICHELIN Key Selection, where Amanpuri holds three MICHELIN Keys, making it the only three-Key hotel in Phuket and one of only six in Thailand. Keys are a hotel award and are not restaurant stars; Amanpuri has no MICHELIN-starred restaurant, and neither does any Phuket hotel other than Trisara. One thing overrides all of it for anyone planning a 2026 trip. Amanpuri is temporarily closed from 15 May to 13 September 2026 for a series of enhancements and reopens on 14 September 2026, which covers most of the 2026 low season. Anyone shopping now is booking for the reopening rather than for tonight, and the reopening date should be reconfirmed with the resort before any flight is bought. The setting is a private peninsula with a private cove shared only with one neighbouring hotel.

Best for: Privacy-first travellers and multi-bedroom groups planning for the 14 September 2026 reopening

Rosewood Phuket

Emerald Bay, near Patong  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Rosewood Phuket, luxury hotel in Phuket

"All 71 pavilions and villas have their own pool, and the resort launched the entire Rosewood Asaya wellness brand here."

9.6Room & Design
9.5Service
9.0Location

Why this rank: Rosewood Phuket is where Asaya started. The resort opened in 2017 on Emerald Bay and became the debut property for Rosewood's own holistic wellness brand, which the group has since rolled out across its portfolio, so the version here is the original rather than a copy of a house standard. The second structural point is the accommodation. All 71 pavilions and villas have their own pool, which makes this one of only a handful of true all-pool properties in Phuket and removes the category guesswork that catches out guests at larger resorts. The setting is a private cove on the Tri Trang headland immediately south of Patong, which is an unusual compromise: you get a sheltered private beach and a terraced hillside site, with Patong's restaurants, shops and nightlife about five minutes away by car. Michelin recognition here is at hotel level. Rosewood Phuket holds two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 Key Selection, and its Thai restaurant Ta Khai is listed in the MICHELIN Guide for Phuket without a star. No Phuket hotel other than Trisara has a starred restaurant.

Best for: Wellness-led couples and families who want a guaranteed private pool with Patong five minutes away

#4 in Phuket

Anantara Layan Phuket Resort

Layan Beach, north west coast  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, luxury hotel in Phuket

"The only Phuket resort with a Zuma on site plus a private helipad, though only the villas get private pools and the rooms do not."

9.4Room & Design
9.3Service
9.0Location

Why this rank: Anantara Layan's clearest differentiator is Zuma. This is the only resort in Phuket with the internationally known contemporary Japanese izakaya brand on site, which turns dinner into a reason to stay in rather than a compromise. Pair that with the resort's own helipad and you get an unusual combination: destination dining and direct arrival on the same property. Be clear about what Zuma is and is not. It is a globally recognised restaurant brand, not a Michelin award, and Anantara Layan holds no MICHELIN Key and has no starred or Bib Gourmand restaurant. Only PRU at Trisara holds a star in Phuket. The setting is Layan Beach, the quiet northern tip of the Bang Tao and Layan bay, bordering Sirinat National Park, with a small headland separating it from the busier Bang Tao stretch, so it is the calmer end of one of Phuket's most developed coastlines. One caution on inventory: the neighbouring Layan Residences by Anantara, 27 hillside residences above the bay, is a separate and more expensive product and should not be confused with the resort.

Best for: Dining-led couples and families booking a pool villa on the quiet northern end of Bang Tao bay

InterContinental Phuket Resort

Northern Kamala Beach  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
InterContinental Phuket Resort, luxury hotel in Phuket

"Two Michelin Guide restaurants under one roof and two Michelin Keys, but just 13 of its 221 keys are true private pool villas."

9.2Room & Design
9.3Service
9.0Location

Why this rank: The reason to book here is dining: no other resort on Phuket puts two MICHELIN Guide restaurants under one roof. Jaras serves contemporary southern Thai under Chef Nui in a restored Sino-Portuguese-style building, and hom runs a fermentation-led tasting menu in the Sawan Pavilion. Both entered the MICHELIN Guide in the 2025 edition as listed restaurants. Neither holds a star, and it is worth being precise about that, because the only starred restaurant anywhere on Phuket is PRU at Trisara. The resort also carries two MICHELIN Keys from the 2025 Key Selection, the hotel award that recognises the property itself rather than its kitchens, putting it in the same tier as Rosewood Phuket and Keemala and one tier below Amanpuri. The second reason is the Club InterContinental Beach Wing, 42 Premium Rooms and three one-bedroom Beachfront Suites sitting directly on the sand at the northern, quieter end of Kamala Bay. That wing is a genuinely different product from the Kamala Mountain Wing behind it. Add eight dining venues and five swimming pools across the estate and this reads as a full-service resort rather than a hideaway, which is exactly what it is.

Best for: Food-led couples and families who want MICHELIN Guide dining, a walkable village and a genuine beachfront wing

Keemala

Kamala hillside, no beach  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Keemala, luxury hotel in Phuket

"Thirty eight clan themed pool villas built into the rainforest canopy, promoted to two Michelin Keys, but the sea needs a shuttle."

9.4Room & Design
9.2Service
8.2Location

Why this rank: Keemala's case is architectural, and it is a strong one. Thirty-eight villas are built into a rainforest hillside above Kamala in four distinct dwelling types, each themed to one of four fictional clans, and every one has its own private pool. The Tree Pool Houses honour the We-Ha, or Sky, clan and run over two floors. The Bird's Nest Pool Villas are the largest, with a mosaic shower and a stone tub. Sixteen Clay Pool Cottages and seven Tent Pool Villas complete the set, linked by winding jungle walkways. Nothing else on Phuket looks like this, and the MICHELIN Key inspectors agreed: Keemala moved up to two Keys in the 2025 Key Selection, the only Phuket hotel promoted into that tier that year. Note what two Keys mean and do not mean. A Key rates the hotel, not a restaurant, and it is not a star. Keemala has no MICHELIN-starred restaurant, and neither does any Phuket hotel except Trisara, which houses PRU. The trade you are making is scenery and design for the sea, because this is a hillside property with no beach of its own.

Best for: Design-led couples and honeymooners who want a private pool in the rainforest and do not need a beach

Sri panwa Phuket

Cape Panwa headland, east coast  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Sri panwa Phuket, luxury hotel in Phuket

"Baba Nest rooftop sunset bar and sheltered east coast water in monsoon season, set on a punishingly steep hillside estate."

9.2Room & Design
9.0Service
8.6Location

Why this rank: Two things make Sri panwa different, and the first is geography. It occupies the tip of Cape Panwa, the headland at Phuket's south-eastern corner, across roughly 80 rai of rainforest rising to about 60 metres above the sea. Facing east and south-east, away from the Andaman monsoon swell, its small private beach stays far calmer from May to October than any west-coast beach on this island. If you are travelling in low season and want to actually swim in the sea, that orientation is worth more than any award. The second is Baba Nest, the rooftop bar built as a shallow reflecting pool around a 360-degree deck, 60 metres up. It is one of the most photographed venues in Thailand and has repeatedly been named among the world's best rooftop bars, and it is effectively the resort's signature. Be clear on what it is not: the water around the deck is a reflecting pool, not a swimming pool. Note also that Sri panwa is Thai-owned and independent, holds no MICHELIN Key and has no starred restaurant, so its reputation rests on setting and media rather than inspectors.

Best for: Low-season travellers who want swimmable sea, sunset views and a private villa pool, and who can handle steep ground

Banyan Tree Phuket

Laguna lagoons behind Bang Tao Beach  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
Banyan Tree Phuket, luxury hotel in Phuket

"The first Banyan Tree ever built, relaunched so every villa has a private pool, but it sits behind the beach rather than on it."

9.2Room & Design
9.2Service
8.5Location

Why this rank: This is the original. Banyan Tree Phuket is the first resort the brand ever built, and it is where the Asian pool-villa concept as we now know it began, which makes it the most historically significant address in Bang Tao. The site has a second story: it was a reclaimed abandoned tin mine, rehabilitated by Laguna's founders across 550 acres, and the lagoons the resort sits on are the legacy of that mining. The current reason to book is more recent. After a renovation programme the resort relaunched as an all-pool-villa property: 44 former Deluxe Villas were converted into 34 Banyan Pool Villas and 10 Banyan Lagoon Pool Villas, so every villa category on the estate now has its own private pool. The DoublePool Villas go further with two private pools each. Two things to keep straight. The resort is on the lagoons behind Bang Tao Beach, not on the beach, and it holds no MICHELIN Key and no starred restaurant, so judge it on the villas and the history rather than on inspector badges.

Best for: Pool-villa travellers who want a short airport transfer and walkable dining, and who do not need beachfront

COMO Point Yamu

Cape Yamu headland, east coast  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
COMO Point Yamu, luxury hotel in Phuket

"A 100 metre infinity pool over Phang Nga Bay in Paola Navone interiors, with no beach at all beyond a boat trip."

9.3Room & Design
9.1Service
8.2Location

Why this rank: The signature here is a 100 metre infinity pool running along the tip of Cape Yamu, one of the longest hotel pools in Thailand, pointed at the limestone karsts of Phang Nga Bay. The resort is a design piece first: Italian designer Paola Navone drew on Phuket's Peranakan (Baba) heritage for interiors that use colour and pattern in a way no other resort on the island attempts. The setting is the other half of the argument. Cape Yamu is a peninsula on the east coast, facing into the bay rather than out at the open Andaman, so the view is karst islands and fishing boats. That orientation also shelters the property from the southwest monsoon swell that closes west-coast swimming from May to October. COMO holds one MICHELIN Key here, and runs its own COMO Shambhala Retreat for wellness with COMO Shambhala Cuisine available across the restaurants. The resort opened as Point Yamu by COMO and now trades as COMO Point Yamu, so older reviews use the earlier name. Understand before booking that this is a headland hotel, not a beach hotel.

Best for: Design-led couples who want a landmark pool and Phang Nga Bay views more than a beach.

The Slate

Nai Yang Beach, beside the airport  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
The Slate, luxury hotel in Phuket

"A full Bill Bensley retelling of Phuket tin mining history ten minutes from arrivals, though only seven of its keys are private pool villas."

9.2Room & Design
9.1Service
8.8Location

Why this rank: The Slate is a Bill Bensley property, and that authorship is the whole story. Bensley built the 25 acres as a theatrical retelling of Phuket's tin-mining era and the Na-Ranong family's mining legacy, in industrial steel, riveted plate and reclaimed machinery, so pulleys, rivets and mining hardware appear as architecture rather than decoration. Nothing else on the island reads like it. The hotel opened as Indigo Pearl and was renamed The Slate, so reviews and photography from the earlier era describe the same property under a different name. The setting is Nai Yang Beach on the north-west coast, inside the Sirinat National Park zone, a long casuarina-shaded beach with local seafood shacks along it. Position is the second selling point: Phuket International Airport is about 10 minutes away, the shortest transfer of any luxury resort on the island, which makes The Slate the obvious first or last night of a Thailand itinerary. It holds one MICHELIN Key from the 2025 Key Selection. The dining headline is Black Ginger, a Thai restaurant on its own island in a lagoon, reached by a hand-pulled raft.

Best for: Design lovers and families who want the shortest airport transfer on Phuket.

The Naka Island, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Phuket

Private beach on Naka Yai island  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
The Naka Island, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Phuket, luxury hotel in Phuket

"The sole resort on its own island off the east coast, sheltered in monsoon season but tied to a boat timetable for every journey."

9.1Room & Design
9.1Service
8.3Location

Why this rank: The Naka Island has an entire island to itself, and that is the reason to book it. It is the only resort on Naka Yai (Ko Naka Yai), a small island in Phang Nga Bay off Phuket's east coast, with its own arrival jetty and speedboat fleet, which is as close to a private-island stay as Phuket province offers. State the geography plainly before booking: this resort is not on Phuket island. You reach it from Ao Por Grand Marina on Phuket's east coast, then a 10-minute speedboat crossing. Sitting inside Phang Nga Bay rather than out on the Andaman coast changes the season. The private beach faces back towards Phuket, sheltered from the southwest monsoon, so it stays swimmable from May to October when Patong, Kata and Bang Tao are red-flagged. It is a Marriott Luxury Collection property and it earned one MICHELIN Key in the 2025 Key Selection, new to the list that year. Dining runs to Rum Chapel for Italian, beachfront dining, and Z Bar, reworked around Japanese-influenced small plates and cocktails. Wellness sits with Spa Naka, in a garden inside the resort.

Best for: Couples who want private-island seclusion and swimmable sea in monsoon season.

The Nai Harn Phuket

Nai Harn Beach, southern tip  ·  Five-Star  ·  rates on request
The Nai Harn Phuket, luxury hotel in Phuket

"The only Leading Hotels member in Phuket, above its best rated beach, but it is a 130 room hotel with zero private pools."

9.0Room & Design
9.1Service
8.9Location

Why this rank: The Nai Harn is Phuket's only member of The Leading Hotels of the World, and it sits above what is consistently voted the island's best beach. Nai Harn Beach is a broad horseshoe bay at Phuket's southern tip, backed by a lagoon and hills, far less developed than Patong or Kata, and that beach is the real draw. The building has history. It opened in 1987 as the Phuket Yacht Club, traded as Le Royal Meridien Phuket Yacht Club and The Royal Phuket Yacht Club, and was relaunched as The Nai Harn after a full refurbishment, so a 1980s modernist structure has been completely reinvented rather than replaced. Be clear on what it is: 130 rooms and suites, a hotel rather than a villa resort, with one main swimming pool and no private pools in any category. Dining runs to Cosmo for modern Thai and Mediterranean, Rock Salt on the rocks above the bay, and Reflections, a rooftop bar with views over beach, bay and hills. It holds one MICHELIN Key from the 2025 Key Selection.

Best for: Beach-first travellers who want Phuket's best bay and do not need a private pool.

Phuket luxury hotels: frequently asked questions

What is the best luxury resort in Phuket for 2026?

Our top pick is Trisara, on a private bay beside Nai Thon Beach, where every one of the 48 suites and villas has a private infinity pool and PRU is the only Michelin-starred restaurant on the island. Amanpuri ranks second, though it is closed until 13 September 2026.

Which Phuket resorts have private pool villas?

Trisara, Rosewood Phuket, Keemala and Banyan Tree Phuket give every villa a private pool. Anantara Layan gives them to villas only, not rooms. COMO Point Yamu has them in 27 villas but not the 79 rooms. InterContinental has just 13 of 221, The Slate 7 of 185, and The Nai Harn has none at all.

Are there Michelin-starred restaurants in Phuket?

Exactly one. PRU at Trisara holds one star in the 2026 Michelin Guide Thailand, and separately holds a Green Star for sustainability, which is not a second star. Restaurants including hom and Jaras at InterContinental and Ta Khai at Rosewood are Guide-listed but hold no star.

Which Phuket resorts are not actually on the beach?

Several, and it matters. Keemala is on the Kamala hillside with a 5 to 10 minute shuttle to the sand. Banyan Tree Phuket sits on lagoons behind Bang Tao Beach. COMO Point Yamu has no beach at all, only a boat trip to one. The Naka Island is on a separate island off the east coast.

When is the best time to visit Phuket?

November to April is the dry season with the calmest west coast water and the highest rates. May to October is the monsoon, when rates fall sharply and red-flag swimming days are common on the west coast. If you travel in that window, the sheltered eastern headlands at Cape Panwa and Cape Yamu stay far calmer.

Is Amanpuri open in 2026?

Not currently. Amanpuri is closed from 15 May to 13 September 2026 and reopens on 14 September 2026, which covers most of the low season. Confirm the reopening directly before booking travel around it, since seasonal closure dates at this resort have shifted in previous years.
