The Belle Étoile rooftop suite has a 360-degree Paris terrace. You will not need a second location.
"The 1835 Tuileries-facing palace, Dali's longtime Paris haunt, a heritage proposal address."
Why this rank, Le Meurice opened in 1835 facing the Tuileries Gardens on the rue de Rivoli, one of the oldest palace hotels in Paris and part of Dorchester Collection since 1997. Across its 160 rooms and suites, the seventh-floor Belle Etoile Suite is the prize: a private terrace looking over the Tuileries, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, and the most-requested proposal setting in the hotel. Salvador Dali spent a month here each year for three decades, and Bar 228 still wears its period interior for the pre-proposal drink. Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse holds two Michelin stars for the dinner after. The address is two minutes from the Louvre and eight from Place Vendome. Best for a heritage Paris proposal with a landmark terrace view.
Best room: Belle Etoile Suite, private terrace, Tuileries view
"The Belle Étoile rooftop suite has a 360-degree Paris terrace. You will not need a second location."
Le Meurice is the proposal hotel for couples who want the proposal to occur from the highest private balcony in central Paris. The Belle Étoile Suite, on the seventh floor, has a 250-square-metre wraparound terrace that looks across the Tuileries to the Louvre, down Rue de Rivoli, over to the Eiffel Tower, and up to Sacré-Cœur. It is the most complete view of Paris available from a hotel room and the suite was renovated in 2007 by Philippe Starck to draw out the view rather than compete with it. Le Meurice has been a hotel since 1815 and a palace hotel in the modern sense since 1898. The Restaurant Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, under a painted ceiling that is the most ornate dining-room ceiling in Paris, holds two Michelin stars. The Bar 228 has the best leather chairs in any Paris hotel; the lounge is the lounge of memoir. The hotel sits opposite the Tuileries gardens with the Louvre at the end of them; the morning walk from Le Meurice to the Pyramid is one of the great Parisian walks.
Belle Étoile Royal Suite, the seventh-floor terrace suite with the 360-degree Paris view. The price is high; the proposal is unbeatable.
Time the proposal for the 9pm Eiffel sparkle from the terrace. Pre-arrange a string-quartet stand-by in the lounge for the descent, they begin to play when the lift door opens.
Le Meurice sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Paris for a Proposal list. It scored an aggregate 9.8/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on proposal-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Paris neighbourhood, see 1st arrondissement, Rue de Rivoli and adjacent. For a different city entirely, Lake Como, Capri, or New York, see the related lists below.
If you have already chosen the ring and the date, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. Most palace hotels in Paris hold their proposal-grade suites at premium rates that release closer to the date, but the best rooms with balconies and views go first, and the inventory for the popular months (April, June, September, December) is quoted in months, not weeks.
Editorial · #11 on the Top 20 Proposal Hotels 2026 list
Le Meurice's case for the proposal stay is the Belle Etoile Suite. The seventh-floor suite has a private terrace facing the Tuileries Gardens, the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower, which is the most-photographable terrace proposal-setting venue in Paris. The Belle Etoile is the property's most-requested proposal suite and the booking lead time runs three to four months in the engagement-season window.
The proposal itself can run on the Belle Etoile terrace at sunset, at Bar 228 (where Salvador Dali spent a month each year for three decades, and which keeps its period interior), or over dinner at Restaurant le Meurice Alain Ducasse (two Michelin stars).
The Restaurant Le Dali on the ground floor handles the lighter post-proposal lunch. The Valmont Spa runs the next-day recovery. The Tuileries-facing position is two minutes from the Louvre, eight from Place Vendome, twelve from Hermes. Dorchester Collection has operated the property since 1997 and the concierge tenure means the proposal coordination runs through a service register that draws on Dorchester's broader London-Paris-LA circuit. Best for the artist's-Paris proposal with the most direct Eiffel-Tower-and-Tuileries terrace view.
