Le Meurice is the proposal hotel for couples who want the proposal to occur from the highest private balcony in central Paris. The Belle Étoile Suite, on the seventh floor, has a 250-square-metre wraparound terrace that looks across the Tuileries to the Louvre, down Rue de Rivoli, over to the Eiffel Tower, and up to Sacré-Cœur. It is the most complete view of Paris available from a hotel room and the suite was renovated in 2007 by Philippe Starck to draw out the view rather than compete with it. Le Meurice has been a hotel since 1815 and a palace hotel in the modern sense since 1898. The Restaurant Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, under a painted ceiling that is the most ornate dining-room ceiling in Paris, holds two Michelin stars. The Bar 228 has the best leather chairs in any Paris hotel; the lounge is the lounge of memoir. The hotel sits opposite the Tuileries gardens with the Louvre at the end of them; the morning walk from Le Meurice to the Pyramid is one of the great Parisian walks.
