Why Mystique a Luxury Collection Hotel for a honeymoon

Mystique sits at the southern end of Oia on the caldera cliff, just below Andronis Luxury and a five-minute walk from the windmill. Marriott's Luxury Collection took the property over in 2008 and has run it as a quiet, design-forward boutique within the brand. Twenty-three suites, all built into restored cave dwellings, all with private outdoor space, the upper tiers with caldera-facing plunge pools. Two assets distinguish Mystique from the rest of the Oia field. The first is Secret Wine Cave — a candlelit private dining room in the volcanic-rock cellar, available only to guests for a six-course tasting menu (book on arrival; the schedule fills fast). The second is the Captain's Lounge — an after-dinner library bar with a fireplace, the best late-night room in Oia for couples who want a quiet last drink. Mystique does not have the photograph reach of Katikies or the architectural rigour of Perivolas, but for the honeymoon that prizes a long dinner, a long drink, and a private cave-suite morning, it is one of the best-run properties on the island.

Best room to request

Senses Villa — private plunge pool, the largest suite. Or a Mystery Villa for the boutique cave-suite product.

Concierge tip

Book the Secret Wine Cave for night three; do not photograph it (the spell is partly the privacy). After-dinner drinks at the Captain's Lounge — the bartender will pre-mix a Mystique signature on request.

The wider context

Mystique a Luxury Collection Hotel sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Santorini for a Honeymoon list. It scored an aggregate 9.7/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on a honeymoon-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Santorini neighbourhood, see Oia, north Santorini and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.

If you have already chosen the dates, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces — the ones that earn this rank — are typically the first to sell out.
