Why Adler Spa Resort Thermae for an anniversary

Adler Spa Resort Thermae is a large thermal-spa and wellness resort of around 90 suites at Bagno Vignoni, in the UNESCO-listed Val d'Orcia, run by the Italian Adler family of spa hotels (sister to Adler Dolomiti in the mountains). Its draw for an anniversary is the spa itself: Bagno Vignoni has been a thermal-spring village since Roman and Renaissance times, and the resort builds indoor and outdoor thermal pools, saunas and treatments around that water. Rooms are suites with sitting areas, the on-site restaurant serves Tuscan cooking on a largely half-board basis, and the village and the wider Val d'Orcia are on the doorstep for walks and drives. The honest caveat: Adler is a family-friendly wellness brand rather than an intimate, adults-only retreat, so in school holidays it can be busy with families, and couples seeking a small, hushed hideaway may prefer a more boutique Tuscan address; the trade-off is a far bigger spa than a small hotel could offer.

Best room to request

All rooms here are suites with a sitting area; for an anniversary, choose one of the larger suites with a private balcony or terrace facing the Val d'Orcia.

Concierge tip

Plan your first afternoon around the thermal pools and a couples' treatment. Walk into Bagno Vignoni village in the morning, and set aside a day to drive the Val d'Orcia to Pienza and Montalcino.

The wider context

Adler Spa Resort Thermae sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Tuscany for an Anniversary list. It scored an aggregate 9.3/10 across the three editorial criteria, competitive against the field but, on an anniversary-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Tuscany neighbourhood, see Bagno Vignoni (Val d'Orcia) and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.

Have firm dates? Our editor's advice is to book roughly twelve weeks in advance. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces, the ones that earn this rank, are typically the first to sell out.
