What makes a redemption "sweet spot"
Three factors:
Factor 1: high cash rate
Redemptions at properties with high cash rates produce strong cents-per-point.
Factor 2: peak season
Peak season redemptions deliver the strongest value.
Factor 3: low or moderate point cost
Properties where points cost is reasonable relative to cash rate.
How to find sweet spots
Three rules:
Rule 1: check Hyatt Category 8 properties
Hyatt's award charts cap at Category 8 (45,000 points). Properties in Category 8 with high cash rates are sweet spots.
Rule 2: watch for off-peak award rates
Hyatt has off-peak award rates (lower than standard). Combined with high-cash-rate properties, these are exceptional value.
Rule 3: monitor award availability
Sweet spots have limited award availability. Book ahead.
Five rules for award redemptions
- Hyatt Park properties in peak season produce 2-3 cents per point
- Conrad and Hilton Maldives properties are strong Hilton redemptions
- Aman and ultra-luxury Bonvoy properties are sometimes bookable on points
- Verify award availability before transferring
- Save points for sweet spots; avoid mediocre redemptions
