The Hotel

The Aspen Meadows Resort sits on the campus of the Aspen Institute — the non-partisan think tank that has hosted world leaders, Nobel laureates, and cultural figures since 1949 — in a series of Herbert Bayer-designed Bauhaus buildings set in a meadow above the Roaring Fork River. The hotel operates as the residential facility for Institute programmes and events, making it the only American hotel where the cultural programme is the actual reason for the hotel's existence.

The 98 studios and suites are in the Bayer-designed structures — mid-century modern, with the flat roofs and glass walls that Bayer brought from his Bauhaus training. The meadow setting, the Roaring Fork River running below, and the mountain views in three directions create the most tranquil hotel environment in Aspen. The Tennis & Fitness Club is the most complete athletic facility at any Aspen property.

The Meadows Restaurant serves a seasonal Colorado menu that draws from the same farm relationships the Aspen Institute uses for its event catering. The Greenwald Pavilion, the Institute's primary event space, hosts Aspen Ideas Festival events, music performances, and public lectures throughout the summer.

Best for Wellness

The Aspen Meadows wellness proposition is built around the environment — the meadow, the river, the Bayer landscape, and the intellectual programming of the Aspen Institute create a wellness context that purpose-built spa resorts cannot manufacture. A week at the Meadows during the Aspen Ideas Festival or the Aspen Music Festival constitutes the most intellectually nourishing hotel experience in the mountain West. See all wellness hotels →

Best for Solo Retreat

A solo stay at the Aspen Meadows during the Music Festival or the Ideas Festival — attending lectures, concerts, and discussions from a Bayer-designed room above the Roaring Fork River — is a specific kind of solo retreat that no other American hotel can offer. The intellectual infrastructure of the Institute is available to hotel guests. See all solo retreat hotels →
