Hacienda Na Xamena was opened in 1971 by Daniel Lipszyc, a Belgian-born architect who bought the cliff above Cala Plana and built what was, at the time, the only luxury hotel on the wild northern coast of Ibiza. The hotel sits 180 metres above sea level on a sheer limestone face above the small cove of Cala Plana, looking due west into the Mediterranean — geographically the highest hotel position on the island and the only luxury property in Ibiza with an unobstructed open-water sunset. The building is whitewashed Mediterranean modernist on multiple stepped terraces, the architecture by Lipszyc himself; the hotel has been in continuous family ownership since opening, currently run by his son Daniel-Lou Lipszyc and the third generation.
The 80 rooms are arranged across the cliff in low whitewashed clusters with private terraces facing the sea. Categories run from Sea View Doubles (the entry category, with private terrace and direct sunset) through Junior Suites with private jacuzzi terraces to the headline Suites Capricho — three cliff-edge suites with private infinity pools cantilevered over the water. The trade-off versus Six Senses Ibiza twenty minutes further along the same coast is that Six Senses is the larger and more contemporary wellness machine; Hacienda is the historical and architectural original, with the better view. A Suite Capricho with private infinity pool over the water is the central honeymoon booking; the Sunset Bar is the city's most romantic sundowner; the Edén pools, the spa programme, and the pine-forest hikes can carry a week without forcing a single trip into Ibiza Town. Better suited than ME Ibiza or the Playa d'en Bossa hotels for couples-only travel.
For an Ibiza proposal Hacienda Na Xamena offers the strongest single setting in the western Mediterranean.
