The Hotel

Noelle Nashville opened in 2018 in the former Cain-Sloan department store — a 1930 Art Deco building on Church Street that has been operating in various commercial forms for nearly a century. The conversion, designed by the Gettys Group, preserved the building's original cast-iron storefront, the terrazzo floors, and the marble columns while introducing 224 rooms across nine floors and a food and beverage programme that reflects the city's evolving restaurant scene.

The rooms vary significantly in size and configuration — the building's department store origins mean that floor plates are irregular, producing a range of room types that rewards guests who specify preferences at booking. The top-floor penthouse suites, with their original ceiling heights and Church Street views, are the most dramatic rooms in the hotel. The standard rooms are compact but finished with evident care.

Makeready restaurant on the ground floor serves an all-day menu that is among the most consistently reliable hotel dining programmes in Nashville. The Rare Bird cocktail bar, off the lobby, specialises in American whiskey with a programme that is genuinely informed — the selection of Tennessee and Kentucky bourbons is the most comprehensive in any Nashville hotel. The rooftop terrace, accessible to hotel guests, provides views of the state capitol building.

Best for Solo Retreat

The Noelle's Church Street location, the Rare Bird whiskey bar, and the building's Art Deco character make it the most atmospheric solo hotel in Nashville. A Tuesday or Wednesday stay — when the Broadway tourists are fewer and the restaurant reservations are easier — produces the Nashville that Nashville residents would recommend to a friend visiting for the first time. Best for Anniversary

The Noelle anniversary proposition is built around the building — the history of the 1930 Cain-Sloan store, the Art Deco architecture, and the Rare Bird whiskey bar create an anniversary that is distinctly Nashville without being defined by the Broadway honky-tonk scene. The penthouse suite with its Church Street views is the most romantic room in downtown Nashville. See all anniversary hotels →
