W Aspen brought a contemporary, design-led hotel to a town defined by historic lodges. Opened in 2019 at the base of Aspen Mountain, the 88-room hotel, alongside a set of W-branded Sky Residences, trades alpine tradition for bold interiors that riff on 1970s Aspen and Ute patterns. Its signature is the WET Deck, an 8,000-square-foot rooftop with a heated pool, hot tubs and a bar looking straight up at the slopes. The location is the other draw, since it sits steps from the Silver Queen Gondola, so mornings on the mountain are easy, and 39 Degrees handles relaxed dining downstairs. The honest trade-off for families is that this is a style-driven, scene-y hotel with a lively rooftop and compact rooms, livelier and more design-focused than a classic family ski lodge.
