Aspen Meadows Resort sits on the Aspen Institute campus, a short shuttle from downtown Aspen, and is the town's design-and-culture address. Its buildings were laid out in the late 1940s in Bauhaus style by Herbert Bayer, the last of the Bauhaus masters, who made Aspen his home, and the all-suite layout makes it genuinely easy for families. There are 98 suites across the campus, most with a separate sitting area, and the grounds give children room to roam, with tennis courts, a pool, and walking and running trails. Plato's is the on-site restaurant, and staying here gives you easy access to the Aspen Institute's year-round talks and, in summer, the Aspen Music Festival nearby. The honest trade-off: this is not a ski-in/ski-out hotel. In winter you ride the shuttle to the mountains, so families whose priority is getting straight onto the slopes are better placed at the Aspen Mountain base, while those who value space, design and a calmer setting will love it here.
