October, March is Jaipur at its best, cool, dry, comfortable for sightseeing. October, November and February, March are the prime months. December, January is the coolest period and the most popular with Western tourists; book 4, 6 months ahead. April, June is hot (35, 45°C) and challenging for outdoor activities. July, September is monsoon season, characterised by occasional heavy rains but green landscapes, and rates 30, 40% lower. Diwali (October, November) and Holi (March) are major Indian festivals, atmospheric but very busy.
Rambagh / Bhawani Singh Road south of the Old City is where Rambagh Palace sits, with the most prestigious garden setting. Civil Lines is for Taj Jai Mahal Palace and Sujan Rajmahal. Goner Road outside the city is for Oberoi Rajvilas. Sitapura, south of the city, is where Anantara Jewel Bagh sits, the city's newest international-luxury arrival. India tipping is generous compared to Europe, 10, 15% standard at restaurants; ₹100, ₹200 per service at hotel staff. Most hotel restaurants are smart casual; jacket appreciated at the palace dining rooms (Suvarna Mahal, Polo Bar) for dinner. One honest caveat for romantics: original heritage suites can run smaller, darker and quirkier in plumbing than purpose-built rooms, so if you want a marble bathroom and a king bed over patina, the modern palaces (Rajvilas, Leela) suit better than the historic havelis. And note that Trident, Jaipur, Oberoi's mid-luxury property by Mansagar Lake, has been closed for a full renovation since July 2025 with no announced reopening date, so it is off this ranking until it reopens.
